I haven't been to one of these events in over FOUR years, and this was definitely an event to go to if
you wanted to rekindle your old EDM passion. And this was a great birthday present to myself!
THE VENUE:
Great location and large enough to hold a pretty big crowd. The room upstairs and side room worked
well for more intimate settings too. Lots of bars to choose from and lots of places to venture off to.
They even had a little restaurant outside! That was
the best because I always like food!
I had a big wide smile on my face for the first 20 minutes because the venue and music took me back
to when I was 16, in phat pants, and religiously attended these events to escape social persecution,
deal my my insecurities, and liberate myself with music. But now I was 24 so I was secure and wanted
to get drunk from a hot bartender, and promptly did so. And then proceeded to figure out what this was
and why I couldn't get it to move...

Cigarette smoke is always a problem in large venues, and I'm glad the security guard took me seriously
after I got fed up with watching seven people smoking like it wasn't 1999 yet and complained about it.
THE MUSIC:
The music was awesome. So awesome that I'm going back. The first
two DJs upstairs were great (and I think I have mix CDs from both,
thank you thank you thank you). The first DJ in the main room was
awesome too (forgot name). I danced to Markus Schulz for almost his
entire set. The crowd seemed to be on the same page with his music too:
energized and intimate.

THE PEOPLE:
A couple of funny and interesting things to note:
I couldn't tell if a lot of the white females were transexuals. They were
in high heels and dressed up with way too much gloss and make-up. Cute,
but what are you gonna do with them? Oh, and this one was the best evar!

Why was this 90%+ Asian? This is no exaggeration, but I'm not annoyed.
However, in my pre-2002 days, Asians were one of many minorities. But
now we were playing "Find the token white person." But hey, if it's Asians
who are keeping the EDM scene alive in LA, then I'm with them.
They're the ones who know what's up!
And this was my favorite Asian of all of them:

I'll leave the revue with a pic of Jamie and I. Music at Spundae make happy Jake and Jamie
(I'm on the right)

so mike and kris come to pick me up and we do a little pre-party drinking before leaving. get to the club uber early b/c mike has to set up and get things ready. right at 9 zan goes on and he already has a crowd that quickly grows in the loft. he laid down some nice tracks and had the energy flowing in the loft for his whole set. aj laid down a nice opening set in the main room as well.
kept bouncing downstairs for cody lee's set which i always enjoy! the back room took a while to fill up but it got there. after cody's birthday set i never made it back into that room except the one time i passed through to get a drink from ernesto and i completely fell, not just slipped but fell, to the ground on my back and was staring up at like 10 people around me looking down at me in horror. kaine tried to quickly pull me to my feet but here's the equation: 2 drunk people + slippery floor x high heels = a big fucking mess! i was so embarassed. thank God i was drunk and i hope to never see those people i fell in front of again
so like a gluton for punishment i continue to go to my favorite bartender to get liquored up and i run into woody who insists i do a shot with him. well, i decide hmm, a red headed slut would do just nice and of course ernesto gives me a shot that is the size of a regular drink but down it goes and so does my memory of most of the night.
i completely missed mike's set i think. i remember kris saying she wanted to go upstairs to see mike spin and i remember going up with her but that's about it. sorry mike, you know i love ya.
then back downstairs to see markus standing by the dj booth ready to go. he greets people and is so very gracious and takes pics, etc. of course i watch for michelle b/c one of my favorite things is to watch people watch their favorite dj. and of course he laid down a very nice set with high energy!!!! i asked him to pretty please drop without you near and he did i don't care if it's old or overplayed or whatever but that song gets me every time. chills all over and my feet just can't stop moving! i love, love, love that song. then i think right after that he drops air for life, yay! another great song. somewhere along the way i'm not sure who but someone dropped tracking treasure down and false light!!!! false light has got to be one of my new favorite songs of all time. damn that is a great track.
then B & J comes in and they are all smiles and ready to go. they had an amazing set. full of energy and great tracks, wait for the ids from others. so much fun and of course a great time watching eric go crazy during their set b/c he loves them so! and for good reason. then my friend pulls me up into the dj booth, which i was a bit uncomfortable with but oh well, i finish out the rest of their set up there dancing and talking to friends.
so cool to see ksky, randy boyer, and carlos hanging out and enjoying the music. always love to see the djs digging other's sets! and of course SO great seeing all the TA's and so many of them were there: robert, eric, bjorn, chris, michelle, kris, mike, woody, malia, colleen, matt cerf, julie, riia, bob, philippe, gil, brett(party robot), and well a ton more but my tired brain can't remember. damnit ben, i never saw you unless i did and don't remember.
bob and gil and fei-fei, i am so sorry that i didn't get to hear/dance to most of your sets. i ended up leaving around 3 am b/c my friend was ready to go so i went with him but what i did hear was great. so funny during B & J's set beautiful danielle, the dancer, comes up to me and is like who are these guys and i tell her and she's like oh, they're so good. she was just rocking out to them down in front of the dj booth.
all in all a great night, so much fun, i laughed so hard at peter most of the night, he seemed to be in great spirits and was hamming it up all night long. great vibe, great music, great friends and all at the happiest club on the planet!
so now WMC and miami baby! see some of you there

Thank You soooooo much.... Last night was a fucken blast.
I had been preparing for last night's show for several weeks. Searching for hot new tracks and hidden gems was an everyday thing. Everything was going as planned, perfect to the T! But, it was all too good to be true. Three songs into my set and my laptop CRASHED. It wouldn't turn back on!!!!!!!! All my hard work had just gone down the drain. Luckily I always carry back up CDs with me. They were not the newest tracks, but it work. The loft was on FIRE!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
For some reason I was not surprised to not see many TA's during my set. THANK YOU ******S!!!!! Well, GPC and his girl did stay my entire set, and I saw a few others drift in and out. I started slow with some house, and quickly changed it to trance. Before you knew it, that room was packed. There was so many girls there, some kept flashing me! It was a different crowd, one that I didn't know. People kept coming on to me complimenting me, giving me props, shaking my hand, taking pictures with me, and even offering me drinks. That crowd was awesome. They were really into my set, very energetic. I think I made a bunch of new fans!!! Hehehehehe
Some songs I played... (Yes, most are old, but I had to. My laptop wasn't working.)
Tomcraft - Loneliness... OMG The crowd went nuts when I dropped it.
Azzido Da Bass - Lonely By Your Side (I Closed with it and fucked things up for Bob! SORRY MAN! )
Marco V - False Light
Ronski Speed - Incognition
Axwell & Ingrosso - Why
Tiesto - Flight 643
Fatboy Slim - The Rockefellar Skank
Killers - Mr Brightside
Burned With Desire
Satellite
Breathing (Breaks Dub)
Freefall
It's Time
Murder Was The Bass
Rachael Starr - Til There Was You
Force of Gravity
Darkside of The Moon
Til You Drop
Guy Gerber - Stoppage Time
Lolo - Why
THANKS GLOBAL VIBE & SPUNDAE!!!! Can't wait til next week.

i had a ton of fun. i didnt hear all of woodys set but i was up there for about 45mins to an hr and it was really fucking good. i saw about the same amount of mike lords set too and damn was it good too. then while B&J were on i heard bob motamedi was on so i had to go check his set out. i was only up there for about 20-30 mins and then because it was the first time i have seen b&j i had to watch the rest of their set. im looking forward to localized. not sure if i am going but i really want too. all the very good local talent amazes me. the only one i didnt see was gil. i missed his set but i saw him up there chilling during woodys set. i saw so many tas last night. i cant remember all of them but to name a few, michelle, chris, bjorn, kris, woody, gil, bob, mike lord, sara, greg (gpc), sky, and a bunch of others. thanks for the great sets mike, woody and bob! awesome.
sara i saw you during schulz.
and for all those (probably no one) wondering about my shirt i did get it signed by markus and B&J.
for all those that didnt go you missed out on a great night. there was a lot of energy in both the loft and the main floor. i REALLY liked everyone playing in the loft.

Undies with a dickhole aren't good for guys. Your balls can get caught in them. That's why I prefer to go over the gate instead of through the fence. |
