:WTF: Streak of bad luck....
If life is a barrell of tar and honey, I just hit the deepest layer of tar so far. So, here's my luck thus far:
1. I am due to start a job in a company I used to work for. Hiring manager is a good friend of mine, I'm as good as sho-in. Friday before starting it, I'm supposed to have an informal conversation with the director and I'm set to go. That goes well. After that interview, I get a call from a recruiting company that sent me there - I'm NOT STARTING A JOB. Apparently my old manager at the company decided to bad mouth me (he's a well-known dick who hates when people leave their slave posts after they're tired of dealing with his bullshit). So, I'm jobless.
2. My failed Airconditioning/Heating unit needs to be replaced. I hire a contractor on my friend's recommendation. The contractor takes the money for the unit $3,600 and vanishes. Empty promisses to finish the job are - well... empty. I have to file a lawsuit to get my money back.
3. Two months of (unpaid) unemployment pass, I finally manage to get another job offer. This one is a contract that's supposed to run for a minimum of 3 months but last contractor worked there for a year. I work there for a month - it's a shitty job but I shut up and bear it. After a month, my manager tells me that budgeting for my work fell through for this year and they can't afford to keep me. I'm out of work only a month after starting.
4. Due to financial holes that I dug myself into while unemployed, I now have to sell most of my studio gear (various synths, etc.).
5. I have a fight with my wife over something as stupid as.... RELIGION... that looks like it may end our marriage. Luckily we find a middle ground and work that shit out but damage was pretty bad. Her family and my family are now not talking to each other.
6. My most prized (and extremely rare) synth, Jupiter 8, which I must sell as it will fetch most money decides to break. Repairs (if possible) would probably cost about $500, making it financially unfeasible to sell it, as I would probably have to sell it for substantially less than what I paid for it.
7. Another synth I sold earlier arrives dead to the buyer and I have to refund his money. Not mentioning I'm already out of $50 on shipping, plus failed attempt to repair it.
8. Last friday, after strong winds and rain, a tree branch falls on our new car (2006 Acura, with less than 6000 miles on it) - about $2000 of damage. Covered by insurance, less $500 deductible but still a bummer.
and if that wasn't enough... While biting into a piece of ice last night, I broke my tooth. :
What the fuck do I do to stop this friggin streak of bad luck???

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. |
