This was perhaps the last true RAVE this city has ever seen...and was definitely one of the FINAL attempts to get the city to let US dance & party the way we knew how. Many of you never had the opportunity to experience those days or even attend this particular event that perhaps will not be duplicated again... at least not for a while. Hopefully things will change and we will witness and even take part in the rise of Electronic music here in TORONTO..and hopefully we will we be able to party in the streets once again.
I present to you my memories of iDANCE 2001. The following were pics & video clips were taken for an online radio station I was with at the time RhythmNationRadio(I had a show on there back in 2001).
Download the clips by -Right Click/Save As-
I encourage many of the new people in the scene to view them and see what was attempted... and perhaps given enough time.. can be done again.
That iDANCE was a flopp .... the first one was much better and there reason for it. To lift the ban of raves on city owned venues. This was a corp sponsered event by Xbox.

WOW! Thanks Robbie. I'm gonna check out those vids when I get home from work.
I cant wait.
Thanks for this post man!!! Its much appreciated!! I wish I'd ventured outta my box back then and experienced the "culture" of the music, as opposed only to the music itself.
Damn my sheltered life in Collingwood growing up. I knew not what I was missing yet.

How can it be the same ? The first one was protest to lift the ban of city owned venues, the second one was just a party that was funded by XBOX?

Memories
Did anyone else notice the potential of this event!?!? It could of been transfored into Canada's very own annual love parade event.
It could of done so much more than just the political statement!
i often thought that it could have turned into a great annual event too .. something like Carribana for dance music ..
the open air festival was just an awesome feeling under that warm summer breeze.. ahhh memories ....

the 2nd was NOT just a party funded by Xbox. despite the fact that they were sponsors of the event (which in my mind helped given the high costs of insurance for an event like that), the 2nd iDance was to protest the rave protocol (that ur always complaining about) which dictates the number of paid duty police officers required to 'safely' police an event. looks like we lost given that a lotta those oldskool promoters are no longer around and the fact that even tho the bylaw from the first iDance was overturned, we don't see large scale events on city owned property anymore..
