Gah! Ableton... Why do you treat me so!?

Ok, I recently started using Ableton Live 5 as my sequencer- I had previously just been using Reason by itself (Thank god I have seen the light.. the reason sequencer blows!) So then the other day I was working on this tune, and the real time audio was playing sooo slowly, soo many clicks pops and delays, it was like a dump truck full of gravel dumping it all... This is strange as I just finished a tune 3 for days ago which was easily more complex and was dealing with more samples. Also, now it gives me all sorts of bitch ass trouble when i try and render the tune to wav/aiff.

It claims that there has been a massive error and suggests i re save the file as a new file and try again. I have done a couple of times with no success.

My "DAW" isn't exactly the most pro machine, but it works and I've been using it consistently for a while with very few hiccups.

2.26ghz
512 Ram
Audigy Platinum
128 mb Ati Radeon
M-Audio O2

I have also defragged my hard drives again and tried to uninstall anything i dont need as well as cleaning up my desktop.

Any other procedures I should go about in order to optimize my pc a tad more (I have done a decent amount of research on setting up a DAW, making sure to do the "basic" stuff in order to make ur cpu go faster). Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Is the song I'm working on cursed?

Help!

That's strange that it's just started to do this.

I would say the most COMMON problem that you get with so many hiccups etc, is because you are not using your soundcards ASIO drivers.

Make sure in your audio-settings your ASIO driver for whatever sound card you're using is selected.

As I don't really do much with Albeton I can't offer you any more insights than that. But good luck.

Yeah, I am using the ASIO drivers and I have changed the latency from 20ms (what I normally use) to 500ms and everything in between with barely any change.

Hmm...

I might suggestion a RAM upgrade to at least 1 gig! I had similar problems with live and i was running my powerbook with 512 mb RAM. It helped process more information and reduced the hiccup problem. Maybe, that could also be the reason why you're having problem saving the file correctly is the lack of ram power to procces the info. I'm not 100% positive but sounds like a possibility to me.

If your running live on a pc, check to see what start up programs are running. maybe you can eliminate a few of them to create more cpu usage.

You should also update your m-audio driver. download it from www.m-audio.com , sometimes the drivers can be buggy and effect many things with your applications.

right now im building my own PC for music production and atm using my dads alright one, does the job really well but cant be on it all the time. so this one will be better!

specs so far:

*centurion case-silver (cac-T05-UW)
*KINGMAX DDR400 1GB (super ram series)dual channel. I dont really need ddr2 anaways atm.
*GeFORCE 6600 GT NVIDIA (px 6600 win fast)256mb
*Pioneer DVR-110D
*Cool Master - Power supply [RS-430-PMAR / RS-430-PMAP] Extreme Power 430W. this is a pretty good quality power supply and a nice weight to it also.
*AMD Athlon 64 3500+
*ASUS Motherboard A8N-SLI
still to buy!
*Sound card?
*hard drives (preferably SATA2) Maybe 500GB
*LCD Monitor

any help on sound card would be great! might get EMU 1820 24bit/192khz one. but is it worth the in the middle sound card or do i go for a cheaper one that does virtualy same?

hey thanks josh for the tip i appriciate it as im kinda lost with what sound card to get!

in regards to the thread i believe that a new sound card and new ram wouldnt go astray. but be careful the art of building a computer(if u upgrade) is its compatibility with its parts you have brought. like in some cases people go and buy ram thinking it going to hurl ass but they slot it in and get error with silly things like it wont work in dual channel etc. i just read up on my ram i bought and %75 were excellent reviews! problem with it was it just didnt like some boards for some reason a some also had errors i think with the ram. but i think people had old pc boards and were not very supportive of ddr400 ram.

everything i read about asus compatibility was excellent so mine should work darn fine! in one of the reviews it even had what motherboards it supported so it was a relief.

but..... i took the ram and put it in my dads comp 2.4ghz albatron main board, roughly 2 yr old comp think close enough. and it did not like dual channel haha funny didnt like my dads board this just proves it, so he had to not run it in dual but still with 1GB ram access.

review here (i think this is the ram not sure if its a diff number 3?00)

sorry had to be brief lol
