Studio Set # 2 (good stuff)

some of my favorites mixed here. I didnt really care how old/new these tracks are, but I thought they would go well together so after a couple of sleepless nights trying things out, editing etc. - the set is ready. Original plan was to have more then 12 tracks in this set, but I also wanted to have it on a cd, so I was limited to 80 mins.

I feel like I cheated, because I messed around with a few tracks in Cool Edit, some simple stuff... cut/paste samples, looping..etc, but all I cared was the outcome. Playing on CDJs with perfect 320 kbps mp3s is kinda like cheating too, imo hehe...

So... check it out =))) feedback and criticism are appreciated.

180 mb, 320 kbps bitrate.

12 tracks, 78 minutes 47 seconds long.

As far as I'm concerned using edits on demos is perfectly fine. And as you stated, your focus is on track selection. This is what nowadays seperates the men from boys, IMO. Beatmatching becomes secondary, yet still important. And, you hit the target straight on. Nice one.

I dont think track selection is more important than beatmatching. I dont think you should primarily be focusing on one or another when you doing a set. A set with perfect tracklisting mixed with doublebeat in every transition is a crappy set, as crappy as a set with a so-so tracklisting, but mixed perfectly. IMO.

Thanks for listening, man! Appreciate your feedback! Stay tuned for more sets coming this month... a breaks mix is in the works already!

I agree, but I've heard so many DJs who could beat mix very well yet were unable to understand track selection. They're mix ended up sounding indecisive and confused. I fail in this respect when I don't take my time and familiarize myself with my records.

We come from different points of view, but I think we can both agree that a balanced execution is the key to an immaculate mix.
