You guys really need to get out of the city for a bit and realize that all animals aren't pets.
Coyotes have done considerable damage to pretty much every other animal population near my family's camp in PA as their population has continued to rise. They've done a pretty good job decimating the turkey population that used to be plentiful as well as preying on young deer. Also, there's pretty much no snowshoe hares left, too.
So if you like those cute, cuddly animals, you should realize that having coyotes in NYC is not so great.

You do realize that if it weren't humans killing everything off, it'd just be a different predator, right.

pal the distinction is that hunting for sport/fun is
very insensitive it is too simple if you need the
excilaration of pure hunting go to a jungle and try
to fight a gorilla or leopard empty handed i am sure
you are a coward but of course a silver rifle gives
you a fake sense of power you'll never have in
comparison to those fantastic animals and yeah the
drive and curiosity of the coyote was exceptional
and ispiring

I'm not upset about it. I just can't believe we have a thread to mourn the loss of a coyote, which while being a clever and cunning animal, is still a predator that if kept unchecked, would kill any small animal that it could.
It's also funny that you told me "an animal died, get over it" because that's exactly the first thought i had when i read this thread.

Are you kidding? Do you understand anything about Darwinism or the concept of "survival of the fittest." Animals like tigers, lions, coyotes, wolves, etc. used to kill humans all the time. Then people figured out how to make that happen less by creating tools to protect themselves.
Maybe the animals should be smart enough to learn how to use tools, then it wouldn't be so easy for us to kill them and we'd stop. Would it be better if I stalked a deer and killed it with my bare hands so it suffers more when I snap it's neck or stabbed it with a rock/knife? That's the way it used to be done before people invented the bow & arrow, then guns. While you may think guns give an unfair advantage, it also makes the kill more humane.
Also, you have no idea what motives I had when hunting. The actual act of killing isn't the pinacle of the experience and I've eaten everything I've ever shot and you know what, venison is damn tasty.
I don't mind the fact that you don't hunt and you care about animals, but I'm not particularly a fan of being called a coward or being told "stfu, hunter boy." My original response was intended to provoke thought about why you have a problem with one type of predator (humans) and not another (coyotes). Both do their fair share of killing other animals.
