Depends on if you think you're going to use the extra pitch. Do you like to mix slow records with fast ones a lot(or vice versa)? If that's the way you play, you might want to spend the extra money. Otherwise, it probably isn't worth it if you usually stick within the +-8% range.

i thought the m5g's wiring inside of the tonearm was higher quality. but maybe that's just a rumor?

lol are you serious?? anyways, i have two of the m5g's the way i look at it, its always better to have the extra pitch. if you have the funds for both go with the m5g

i don't think it's a rumor.

one of the selling points of the m5g is the "upgraded" tonearm cable, and interconnects. the interconnects actually have the words "technics hi-fidelity audio cord" printed on them.
-i have not done a side by side comparison, so i can't tell you how much better it is than the regular techs.

also the m5g has a screw at the base of the tonearm, that you can tighten when you are going to do some serious scratching to help needle keep it's grip on the record.

the +/-16 feature helps me a bit too.

The m5g have a digital computerized pitch.

This is good because the pitch is more stable (no variation)
but bad because it's less acurate (it works in incriments).

I already went for the mk5 when I read that.
I am happy with them.

If you can afford them, get the M5G's. Hands down.
They are the superior turntable and the flagship in the Technics SL range.
