Novation question

I love the sound of the V station but I fill a bit held back with only 8 notes of poly so I'am thinking about getting the KS RACK.

One thing I noticed though even though the K series stuff is newer the older supernova rack & keyboard still seem to always featch a higher price.

Is there any reason for this? Do they sound diffrent from each other ( I noticed the v station sounds very diffrent from my virus )

Is there any direct comparision tests anywhere ( I couldn't find any but with spelling like that it's not a fecking suprize)

Comments please.... Thanks

why don't you just use multiple v-stations and save up for something more usefull?

I can't really see the benefit of having the same twice, in hardware and software shape, when the vst can do it all for you anyhow. Unless you really prefer hardware over software anytime that is.

heh, i've run into the same problem so many times with my JP. nothing is more ghetto than having to split your pads into 2 sections and recording them separately. but you just make do with what you have.

hi Jason_R i have the k-station and the v-station. the sound from the k is sharper and has a very prominent heavy bass than the v-station. also the filter has many options are hidden under the panel that are not present in the v-station. hope this helps

You can always multisample too.

Thanks some very useful advice there. One slightly off topic question is if I brought V station and decided to use 3 of them to play the main lead would I be able to automate them as one? Eg like the filter cut off or would it need to be done for each seprate instance of the synth? I'am using fl studio 6.

I know there is no point of having somthing that;s really the same in software and hardware but does anyone else just sometimes decide they want somthing for no real reason?

v-station, k-station and supernova are completely different beasts, even though they are based on similar synth engine.

I used all 3. I have k-station - which I do agree is better than its software counterpart in some ways.

Supernova is not even in the same ballpark. yes, engine is similar, filters are somewhat similar but supernova is the real deal, while K-station is supernova "lite".

For the money you spend on K-station rack (more expensive than keyboard due to its rarity) could probably be used to buy supernova rack. Even regular supernova (not supernova II) is better featured than k-station. Now, in terms of capabilities and sound - I'd recommend supernova II for the ultimate novation sound. however, I found supernova to be a bit... bland, IMHO. I liked what it did and features but your mod matrix is nowhere near access virus nor the sound is as diversified. If you want to plunk out $600 or so bucks - why not get virus B?

So, that's just my humble opinion.

cheers.

I went for the k station rack in the end as it was only £150 not bad for a synth! Oh I already kind of have a virus c so thats why I chose novation.

Well said. Pretty much agree on all apart from the SuperNova part.

I'm chasing a SuperNova II at present, spent 2 hours playing a second
hand SN in a secondhand music shop today, still love them, but personal tastes are personal tastes, no?
