Yeah, my denon dnx-1500 lets me do loops off of vinyl. It's a bit annoying because it's hard to transition out of (since the vinyl's still playing normally while the mixer is looping whatever you looped), but definitely works.
Not only do I not think vinyl is obsolete in any way...but even if it were, who cares. I started on vinyl...I've added CDJ's to my setup so I can do both. You can get some very expensive CD players that will do a very good job, especially if you're only using them for a few tracks in a set.
