KRK Rokits

Hey I was thinking of buying some KRK rokits in maybe a few months (changed my mind from forking out 1k for Mackie SRM350's). In your opinion what ones are the best?

So far I have heard that the RP-5's + RP-10 (subwoofer) is a pretty good combo but do the RP-5's give enough bass and volume by itself?

Thanks!

Yeah, but no one really said if the RP-5's were good enough with out a sub.

I ran my RP5's for a while without the sub, and they were fine. I did add it in eventually, though. You could also look at the RP8's if you don't want to pick up a sub just yet.

I also considered the SRM-350's, but they are really just too big and loud for use at home.

I just got the RP8s and they rock. Still having to break them in and get used to them (I had some crappy Yahama PAs before). I may eventually get a subwoofer, but for now I don't think I need one. The RP5s I heard and they sounded good with a subwoofer, but I don't think you will get much bass without it, esp because of the 5'' woofer. You could go for the RP6s or the RP8s and not get one, but I don't think you can really get the volume, frequencies and bass with just the 5'' ones on their own. If you don't turn them up too loud you could get by with them, but sometimes it's neccessary to turn monitors up a bit louder, so i'de either go with the RP8s and get by without one, or for $100 more get the RP5s and the RP10 subwoofer, or however more they are in Canadian currency.

i have the rp8's and couldn't be happier. plenty of bass, can get really loud without even going past halfway on the volume control, good clean sound. i'd recommend them to anyone.

personally i think the bass response on my rp5's is quite impressive. these near field monitors can go pretty loud... because i have them so close to my ears, there's no way i could pin the volume.

personally, i don't need any more bass because i live in an apartment. I'm sure the sub would compliment them though. Check out the V4 series 2 / sub combo... Apparently the 4's are more impressive than the RP5s.

May I ask you for what exact purpose you need the speakers for? Because the SRM350 is a PA speaker, the rokit series are nearfield monitors.
