- GizmodoAllen & Heath make sexy mixers and a number of famous names, including Pink Floyd and the Who, have twiddled the knobs of more than one of their handmade consoles.
It appears, however, because each devices uses old-timey tubes and contains some lead, Allen & Heath might have to stop producing some of their more famous models. Thanks to the England’s Reduction of Hazardous Substances Act—originally designed to prevent unscrupulous junk vendors from dumping loads of toxic crap on an unsuspecting public—these classics will probably go the way of the dodo.
I doubt this is true, cmon its not like there is loads of lead in them, its not like there are millions being made, bought and thrown away every day of every week or every year either.
There was a big discussion about vinyl becomming extinct cause of pollutants it produces. It's all bullshit, don't panic.

The vinyl one was bullshit but this lead one i have heard of and it is true.
Its going to be a large problem for all electronics entering England, not just for these beautiful A&H mixers.

If it were just mixers being made this way then fine but there are so many electyronics being thrown away etc.
What cracks me up more than anything else is that all of Europe is going mad with eco friendly (and rightly so I might add) the worst offenders couldn't care less.
It's like being locked in a speeding car with a suicidal driver.

Yeah honestly doubt if it will effect me... I have no desire to dump a months pay into a v6 or 1620 nor do i ever think i will... All it will do (if it is actually true) is make the already existing ones more appealing and expensive (not like they needed it!)

They are already working on alternatives to the lead in certain electronic components and such.
Atleast they are doing something about it, aslong as the replacement comes by before the laws fully take off who cares?
I might sound like a hippy but we need to stop start preserving what we got left. In Australia we are at good risk of skin cancer because we already live under a huge hole.

Rotary mixers frighten me... I'm ashamed to say it, but I haven't a clue... I look at them, and I'm instantly perplexed...
Edit: I should clarify, I don't mean just "rotary," because I love the Xone 92 Rotary, but I guess I mean this style of Rotary, or like the Rane Rotary... I just don't understand them.

i remember reading something about that when doing research on solder. people in the eu and i guess the uk also, are unhappy about not being able able to solder w/lead in it. they say the lead-free stuff doesn't last as long, and generally doesn't sound as good as the solder from TRT, or Cardas.
it sucks to have give up something, and not have a suitible replacement for it.

What's not to understand? I'm sorry, I'm perplexed by your perplexedness.
