Both have their hits and their misses.

I'm very selective with both as a lot of progressive puts me to sleep and a lot of techno makes me want to jump off a tall building.

When either is done right though, wow.

techno done right - Mauro Picotto - Dark Room
progressive done right - Tyrell and Supercreep - Dope Quarter (Traiano mix)

To me anyways.

Just like too much alcohol can damage a liver, too much of that can blow out even the most weathered cerebellum.

prog from the 'good' era, eg cass&slide, and the more melodic progtrance of up until 2001/2 is good, Techno is also good but there's so much to it, so many tracks & styles, and yes both genres have their bad stuff, find me one that doesn't

yup. But actually, you'd be suprised by the amount of good prog coming out in 2005. I've become a Proton radio addict because of this. Techno is a little too obtuse for me to get my head around sometimes. I've tried to get into it, I really have. And I'll continue to try just for the sheer fact that I think it's probably the most down-to-earth genre of EDM. It's just so hard for me to.

I like both styles, Theres been a huge explosion of Proggy Techno tracks, Thanks to producers such as the Filterheadz or Santiago Nino, I also believe Nathan Fake and James Holden falls in either of those catagories.

Holden definately has some progressive tracks but Filterheadz? They're definately house, although I think it depends more on the track itself for some producers and they don't just stick to one exact style or genre (ie. Gabriel and Dresden).

Many of Filterheadz tracks kind of has sort of a techno/tribal progressive house vibe to them, Really hard to describe.
