I have the NUO 4 and I believe it has 60 MM faders. To answer your question, it really depends on how you mix. A lot of the time, I'll slam up the fader to the top and mix with the EQs. Sometimes, I like the extra length to do smoother mixes. I'll put it this way - I was considering going rotary but I'm happy I got the xtra long faders because they are a nice compromise.

when you mix with only the EQ's or gains, with the faders up, dont the eq's have to have full cuts or else youl here the track coming in?

yes there is a difference.

my old vmc-004 had 45mm faders. my current mixer has 60mm. mixing on the longer faders is a lot better/smoother/subtle, etc. rotary will destroy them both.

so it looks like the nuo-3 is worth the extra 150 bucks for the longer faders.. thx

Depends on how you mix. personally i dont rely much on the faders to mix. If this is an issue, then a rotary mixer would be the way to go. Slightly longer faders will only make a slight difference anyway.
I'm not familiar with the mixers you are talking about, but if the faders are the only major difference i'd spend the extra $150 on something else, like an fx unit or better decks.
If you want to make smooth transitions my experience is that a mixer with a 4 band eq is a lot more usefull than one with long faders.

hmm.. so is it cleener to mix with the eq's with the fader all the way up? what happens if the eq's dont have full cuts, you can hear the tack comming in right? when you say you dont rely on the faders to mix im assuming you cue your songs using the low highs and mids?

im gonna be mixing mostly trance and tech trance... do most trance dj's just mix with the eq's and not the faders? i ask this because i want my mixes to be perfect.. thanks

yes, for the most part. It depends on the song, but that's just the way I like to do it. If it has a nice clean intro then I only use the eqs, if it starts at full blast then the faders are usefull, but I still use the eqs for blending the tracks.
If you are new to djing, then the fader length shouldn't be your chief concern when shopping for a mixer.

I assume so. Trance/prog usually have nice mixing friendly intros and outros.I'm not really sure how most djs do it. I have my way, and others have their way of doing things. There is no absolute right way of doing things, but for starters you should definatly learn to use the eqs.

Thats a pretty good attitude to have when shopping for gear.i've never used an Ecler mixer,but I hear they make quality gear. Like I said, if the fader length is the major differnce between the two, I'd go for the cheaper one and get an fx or filter unit instead.

usually, I mix with both the upfaders and the EQ's when playing house (when I spin hard techno, I use the upfaders, EQ's AND x-fader!).

Most of the times, I'll kill (or significantly lower) the bass on the incoming track, and mess with the MID/HI to whatever sound the best. Then I'd bring in the track slowly with the fader. Once its "mixed" I'll then adjust the EQ's futher, depending on what I want to do. And then use the upfader to lower the other track.

Of course, everyone has their own way of mixing...so if you plan on doing long, smooth mixes, the 60mm faders on the NUO3 might be easier to use than the 45mm on the NUO2.

Then again, both mixers have adjustable curves for the faders, so you can adjust it to suit your style. But both mixers are definaltey great choices!

thats why i decided to buy a mixer with 60 mm fader only in the future. think Nuo-3(4) or Xone:32
dunno about rotary but they dont look as sweet imo
