True Colours
How long does it usually take for someone to show their true colours? Apparently a long time.
A friend of a year and a half who just recently went on a trip with me just decided that she wasn't going to pay me some money that she owes me.
I feel pretty stupid right now. How did I not see this side of her personality? Is it because people can hide certain parts of their personality well, or was I just being naive about her? Or maybe a little bit of both?

it took about 2-3 years for me to see some of my best friend's not so nice qualities, but i've learned to see past them

it's not your fault. I have had similar things happen to me before. I guess that some people are just really good at hiding certain parts of their personality.

When someone does something as petty as rip you off, it's kind of hard to see past that.

Money is always a point of contention.
what exactly is the context? Did she just say, "I don't want to pay you!" Did she explain why?
Really shitty nonetheless.

I don't think it's a matter of 'hiding parts of their personality', but rather not being faced previously with a situation in which such personality traits would've been shown...

Yes, she did explain why. There is a long background story, but basically what happened was, there was a fight (unrelated to money) that transpired between us on the weekend that we went away. Because I "ruined her weekend", she has chosen to terminate the friendship and to refuse to pay me the money that I owe her.
Since the trip ended, I have realized that she is crazy, so trying to make sense out of the situation may be futile.

it's true. but whatever you want to say it is, it is wrong to do that to a friend. it definitely breaks the trust factor and makes you feel horrible inside.
