Van Morrison - Hymns to the silence double cd.
Songs like
I'm Not Feeling It Anymore
man I used to love Van Morrison when I was a kid! Other kids thought I was weird for listening to that at school.
I need to pull out the old cds
Otherwise I am not that huge of a fan of blues it kind of bores me.
It's all about the jazz!
Pat Metheny
Herbie Hancock
Dexter Gordon
Erik Truffaz
Patricia Barber
etc etc

anything and everything by the one and only Nina Simone, especially her cover "I Put a Spell on You." After hearing it, I can't even remember who did the original. She made it hers regardless. Ditto to "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and anything other cover that she made sound how it was meant to be.
Tom Waits - Tango til' Sore
Leonard Cohen - Dance me to the end of love
Holly Golightly - Your love is mine
We have a pretty neat jazz & blues district where I live... little dumpy dives where everyone dresses with white cuffs, hats and heels on weekends and watches the open stage. I wish it was more torch-like but theres nothing better than sipping a cold, powerful drink in that atmosphere imo. Could you imagine being in the little St.Joe shack in flames that first housed Joplin's Maple Leaf?!?
