Anyone in here Politically active IRL?

I go to town meetings and shit. Don't really participate, but I love to listen.

since i only respond in matters of philosophy as a general rule, i'll modify the question to apply to me, and the answer is yes - i am philosophically active in 'real' life.

I'm a member of the Australian Democrats and do admin work for them part time. We're a fairly small party and do pretty well to poll more than about 3-4% at the moment. Considering running for parliament at the next federal election as well depending on the time / costs involved and whether I can get nominated as a candidate (which shouldn't be too hard as there's only about 40 other members in my area, most of whom wouldn't consider running anyway). The current federal member for my electorate (Kevin Andrews) is the fucking arsehole who criminalised euthanasia and introduced the recent controversial Industrial Relations legislation in this country, so at the very least I'd get a great deal of satisfaction from running against him.

I'm a member of the "Moderate Youth League", which is the youth organisation (up 30 years old) of the "Moderate Party".

And since this is an election year in Sweden I have been quite active, both in campaigning and planning. Hopefully I will have enough time in the summer to convince a few from the dark side

I'm not happy at all how things are developing in Sweden though (politics vice), pretty much everyone is in the centre, and there is not a lot of difference between the parties. I actually had quite developed plans to start my own ultra liberal party and run for parliament (we did a website, recruited a few members and set up a manifest), but unforuntely other things happend so that didn't get enough time But maybe for the next elections.

Maybe someone from here is interested in setting up something similar for the EU parliament? =)

I'd like to run for mayor in my town but I don't feel like actually getting up and getting all the signatures for my run against her. She has been our mayor for the past 12yrs and she has like 70% of the voters behind her. I just wished people knew how bad she will eventually screw this town. And her salary is over $200000. So I have heard from one of my friends who is a friend of the Mayor's child.

I heard that the board's total salary is over 1.5million, they are all thieves and I wished they would be replaced. Oh, and she uses tax-payers money to go on "political" trips to Israel and other places.

I once held a rally of support for our most corrupt government minister when he was about to get fired, in front of the government building. The policemen were pretty amused with my speech

And I'm planning to start my own religion, but most of you know that by now already.

I've also considered joining some wacky party but I never quite got around to do it.

Since I can't vote anywhere, I usually try to be mute about politics IRL and present myself as unopinionated or "it doesn't really matter" (which is slightly true). And as a resident and non-citizen of the country I live in, I try and not get too involved in political matters as I dont' believe it is my place. But every now and then I will go into political/philosophical debates with people.

And that's about it.

Yeah that counts!

People don't vote for the small things in their town, and thats when stupid shit can be funded by tax dollars. So good job man. I haven't registered to vote yet... sooo, you know. I'll do it soon!

Yah, voting is such a simple thing, yet a lot of people don't do it.

It's the first source of power you have...and it costs you nothing but a little time.
