Signature size

Swamper, I posted a general message in the Chill Out Room for some overall discussion, but will post something here as well. Something needs to be done about the run-away signatures that are now 80% of the content that is downloaded in order to read a thread. Some of these images are pushing 450K, for a friggin signature. One person's message now takes up a the whole screen because they posted a message with 3 lines in it, quoted another 4 and have 25 used up with images/requests/overall crap imo in there signature.

just my thoughts on that.

Mine was far to big to be honest, i was only intending to leave it up for a bit, but if a sig is to be someone will tell that person fast. There should b a limit in my opinion, but then it depends what res you have on your comp as well

Monkey Dancer 2 My thoughts

I looked at everyones sigs and it barely passes 50K When I created mine today it was over 150 K and I was thinking about my fellow TA's that have dial up. So I downgraded the quality and it is now about 35k. I agree that sigs are a way that people know who they are talking to/reading about at a quick glance. But there should be a limit. I propose that it be 60k max. with programs out there that can easily downgrade the quality but still keep the pic looking sharp it should be simple as hell to convert. Just because I downgraded the quality---doesnt mean that I made the pic smaller, just made the initial file smaller. Just my thoughts..

Cheers

[UPDATED] PS my sig is exactly 31705 bytes i.e. 31k

Hi,

Sigs should be saved in .jpg format cos' they are 40 times smaller than an original .bmp.

Furthermore, you cached sig on your comp for a long time.

So you're not always dling all the sig at new.

With this two aspects, i don't think there is more to do to make it easy even for 56k user...

i, personally, think that unrestricted signatures allow us to be more creative, and as it was saifd above.. images are cached on your HDD so youre not downloading them over and over.. whatever i think its facist to limit everything... let us have our signature freedom!

I agree with Marc,

I am on 56K about 85% of the time (on my laptop), and i don't have problems with sig sizes... again, only the same 100 people or so are posting in all the forums, and all the sigs are cached to your HD... so after a day or so of browsing i don't have any problems.

It's not THAT bad people!

hmm I like big signatures.. and maybe it is just me thinking and babling off in my mind, but isnt there a way when you start a thread to disallow signatures?? or an option under your profile area, where you can choose not to see signatures???

ehmm.. maybe not, maybe I am pulling that out of my ass

edit: my sig is 47k.. but I am not worried

viva big sigs!

hahahah
