Now, I've never been to a JP show, and I've heard that he uses a lot of uneccessary equipment as a crutch. However, a member of this forum that used to be a big JP fan (name withheld b/c he's not online and I would like to ask for permission b4 citing his name as he no longer likes JP) said that he used[i/] to be a skilled DJ in terms of mixing [i]and track selection. I know that I love a lot of his 2003 and earlier mixes (especially the 2003 S&M Soundfactory Revelations Mix --- HOT set)

Keep in mind that I usually defend JP on the TA boards as I don't appreciate the dudes that incessantly bash JP and Tiesto, but as I said in a different thread, if the sets that I've been DLing are any indicator, JP has been going downhill recently. Now, that's dissapointing, as it means that he won't ever get fans outside of the NYC metropolitan area... let's hope new NYC DJs get the fame for our city --- like DJ Eco (your shit is amazing, man, I'm just dissapointed that I missed your set, and it's an honor to consider myself your freind).

Sadly, I think JP is on his way down from the level of DJ skill that he had at one point in time. Whereas some may disagree with me, there was a point (pre 2003) where JP came out with some of the most disgusting and amazing mixes in terms of 'modern' house music that was available. I've never been to one of his shows (keep missing them for one reason or another) but I hear that his decline is quickened by a terrible crowd. As such, I really hope that he's like Tiesto, and will rebound from that decline of his and come back to his place as a very good and respectable house DJ. Otherwise, I'm dissapointed in what he has to offer as a DJ.

Now that I really think about it, it's quite confusing. To put this in perspective, I helped set up Junkie XL's live show at Avalon back in 2004 and all he brought with him was a mac and a synth. Believe me, I'm not trying to be a cynic, a JP hater, or a smart-ass. But can someone please enlighten me as to why a DJ that plays the style of music that he does, need all this equipment? Junkie XL's live show is a joke too... I kind of think of him as a britany spears of a electronic music.... Not because his music is bad, because some of its great. But all he really does is dance arround the stage while playing dat files and mixing levels....


I have no clue what jp is doing nor have i ssen him live ever. But from the pictures and what ive heard he brings way to much gear for it to sound the way it does...

ive been asking the same question... a JP fan will ignorantly say "its because he constructs songs and doesnt just play them (which is BS considering the song he plays that i recognize is the same exact song as the version that i have, give or take some loops here or there). he does remixes on the fly (which is not the case, he layers acapellas over other tracks, and thus, it sounds like a remix on the fly of a song they know and love but over another song, omg!!!!)".... thus, ive been saying for a while, there is no need for all that equipment, any DJ can achieve similar results from an FX box, two good CDJs, and like you said, a Pioneer mixer... or maybe one instance of Abelton Live running (not 2 or 3, like pics of JP show)
