Which audigy? 4?

Creative cards aren't the best in the world. The quality of your sound is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain (including cables). So if the monitors you buy are excellent and your soundcard sucks then it will suck.

If you buy a soundcard you should realy go for something from M-Audio. Also E-Mu is just a daughter company of Creative and they use the same parts as in the soundblasters and sell them for more. Creative is excellent for games and films but aren't realy made for music production.

And if you do go out and buy a card it's a good idea to find out if it is supplied with it's own ASIO-drivers. If it is then they had music production in mind when they where making the cards.

The benefits of better sound cards can be numerous. Not only better sound quality. But also things like direct monitoring, which makes sure all your fader level indicators run in realtime. Also zero-latency, which means that when you record to audio the recorded part is exactly sequenced in the spot where you played the sound. Also a good card would take away some of the CPU strain from you DAW so that automations run in real time. So you can start using things like controllers and MIDI-keyboards without the controllers commands being delayed.

Right, that's all. I could go on all day but i think you get the picture.

kind regards,

CD

Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.

Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.

tnx!! Well all those benefits dont matter much to me, all I want is my card to not colour the sound (just output the sound as it is)... I expect sound cards don't alter the sound no matter how cheap they are?

I think I have an audigy 2 or 3, it has its own asio drivers. Can I keep it for use with expensive monitors you think, in other words will my audigy not alter the sound (frequency boosts and stuff)??

Im big fan of guillemot/hercules soundcards... they are cool looking, reliable and the sound is pretty good for low budget so you might want to check into those too...

hope someone can "+1" me on it?

Allright, i've done some research. It seems Audigy's quality is just fine.

There is one problem: The ASIO drivers can only run in 48 khz instead of 44.1 khz. So i'm forced to run my Music Production Software in 48 khz. When I turn the sampling rate of my Music Production Software to 48khz it gives me all kinds of warnings: Some VST''s can act strange, samples can sound strange etc...

Also: I've read somewhere that if I use 48khz, I need to convert all my samples to 48khz too. Is this true?

If so, I will buy a new soundcard after all.

Converting to 48 isn't so bad. Most sequencers do this automativaly as soon as you import the sample into your project. And this only take about 4 seconds.

I can vouch for the 24/96. It's the best audiocard i have ever had.
