Which audigy? 4?
Creative cards aren't the best in the world. The quality of your sound is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain (including cables). So if the monitors you buy are excellent and your soundcard sucks then it will suck.
If you buy a soundcard you should realy go for something from M-Audio. Also E-Mu is just a daughter company of Creative and they use the same parts as in the soundblasters and sell them for more. Creative is excellent for games and films but aren't realy made for music production.
And if you do go out and buy a card it's a good idea to find out if it is supplied with it's own ASIO-drivers. If it is then they had music production in mind when they where making the cards.
The benefits of better sound cards can be numerous. Not only better sound quality. But also things like direct monitoring, which makes sure all your fader level indicators run in realtime. Also zero-latency, which means that when you record to audio the recorded part is exactly sequenced in the spot where you played the sound. Also a good card would take away some of the CPU strain from you DAW so that automations run in real time. So you can start using things like controllers and MIDI-keyboards without the controllers commands being delayed.
Right, that's all. I could go on all day but i think you get the picture.
kind regards,
CD

Review Latest Track; Charlie Delta - Then The Days Where Long
Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.
Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.
