Alienware for Production??

I'm having trouble finding the right system to purchase, sure, I could make my own computer and save alot of money, but I would really like to try Alienware's Aurora 7500 Desktop: http://www.alienware.com/product_de...ode=SKU-DEFAULT , cuz I also want it's tweaks for hardcore gaming. What I've been seeing on the net is that most processors sold are either strong for gaming, or just strong for multi-tasking/overclocking, but rarely both at full strength at the same time. I also never heard of anyone using alienware as music production stations and figure it's not a good idea. Either way, to have the best of both worlds I'd have to make em both with my own bare hands, but in one system?? not sure about that

If I'm right, Alienware PC's are very powerful PC's with great Graphics cards, made specifically for gaming. If you put in a good soundcard for producing music (not sure what it comes with), then I see no reason why you can't use it for production. Especially with the piece of shit I'm producing with, and I seem to struggle by

Alienware computers are good but for what they are, they are way too expensive. And they arent anywhere near silent.

You can build a similarly specified PC for about half the price, provided you keep your existing monitor by getting a PaQ barebone case and kitting it out with your own components. You will need to buy a CPU, Hard Drive, Memory, Audio Interface and Graphics card yourself but the PaQ case is designed to be ridiculously quiet. Its the only case on the market where you can mistake your computer for being off when its actually on. The downside is that it isnt as upgradeable as a full ATX case but it is tiny and you can make an insane production rig out of it.

I have had an Aurora 7500 for about 7 months, yes it was expensive but you cannot build the same machine for 1/2 the price IMO as I calculated this at the time and set it up with all the top components. The premium was about 25-30% however it worth it in my opinion if you have the spare $ just for the extended warranty that comes with all the parts. There is no hassles with setting anything up, excellent support and on it runs a heap of channels all with a variety of VSTs in Ableton 5. oh and the case is f**king sexy

I bought only the box from Alienware then sourced two BenQ 19" flatscreens from a fairly local computer hardware chain.

If you can be bothered building it though and you know exactly what you are doing it is worth building it yourself i guess.

hope that helps
