which powerhouse hardware synthesiser?????

hey guys.

im not completely understanding the potentials of these two options..

access virus TI (keyboard) (digital imitating analogue)

alesis andromeda (fully analogue)

now i want a massive synth that will do nice bass and huge leads/pads as well as retro and for making original sounds. like the best for all of them. i notice the virus is more popular, but will that mean that the sound is more generic? i read the andromeda is the most powerful synth ever.

its about time i bought a nice big sounding synth. can you tell me the pro's and cons and any recommendations.

i am into making techno, deep atmospheric prog trance and big tech trance (most styles within trance and techno) and will be working on more pop music aswell..

thanks in advance

rich

stay away from the TI - it has some know issues, specially with power and voltage - hence why its not widespread at themoment. for a big synth...the andromeda will do anything u willthrow at it. its infinately tweakable and massively good sounding. very pricey, but definitly worth it!

I don't know much about hardware synths, but I saw this in another thread.

- The most digital sounding analog synth!

- Takes over 3 minutes to tune and about 15 minutes to warm up ( even Jupiter 8 is faster!)
- Very complex and impossible to master unless you're a synth pro
- Hard to get sounds that are not harsh
- Awful quality control and inconsistent quality - you never know how reliable or unreliable yours will be
- Not the best keybed, considering the suggested MSRP of $3000
- Uses archaic PCMCIA card for additional storage and limited to 4MB cards!
- very touchy and overly sensitive knobs, resulting in difficulty getting a percise value dialed in without using buttons
- Menus are in tiny print, hard to read in dark/on stage
- Not 100% true analog (signal path is in parts digital)

go for the virus b, c or ti.. all are great and can do just _everything_ . they are allrounder and very good at this.

I hope you will go and check them out before buying it, and accually play with it to see how you like both. Friend of my bought the andromeda, mail order for US. He was all hyped up, casue he read all the good stuff about it on the forums.. Unit came.. wow, 3 months he got rid of it. At the end he was dissapointed, for his own reasons, and sold it to get a virus ti, and a nord lead g2. Now he's a happy camper. Just before buying make sure you play with both , to avoid dissapoitment. I own a virus c, jp8080 and nl3 at the moment, and use to have analog synths, such as mini moog, juno 106, jupiter 8 back in the day, and other countless hardware synths, that are gone now and andromeda just dosn't appeal to me. But that's just my opinion, Some people love it Everyone is diefferent... It's way overpriced for what it is accually. And it's ahybird analog, since it's half analog half digital, That's if you read the specs
