i know that you can do that in ableton, via the routing, but i never really tried in cubase, and why dont you like it the way your doing it, record it in midi and then when you totaly satisfied with it, after adding all kinds of effects and processing just bounce it down to audio and import it back to cubase. when in cubase, i mostly do it like that

too much of Vst running at the same time is dangerous for my cpu as it take up lots of power
