Learn grammar people... it's gone! "G-O-N-E"! "I should have gone" and "we haven't gone!!!"

explain the rule as to why it is 'should have gone' and not went.

a lot of people do not know how to use the past participle correctly. personally, i think using the correct form of was/were is something more important that should be worked on.

the meaning is there, so what is the big deal? IMO the sole use of language is to communicate. you understood what is meant, so what is the problem? i think grammar is more important for writing.

As for the was/were confusion... I wonder whether the grammatical rules are changing soon - only those of us who learn English abroad seem to say "if I were"
