I'm thinking about getting a new mixer to replace my Vestax PCV 275. I want something with better sound quality and better EQs. I've had mine for almost three years and would like to upgrade either this summer or around Christmas of this year. I am looking at the Ecler Nuo 3, as i've heard some great things about it on here and in various reviews i've read online, professional and user reviews. I've also heard great things about the A&H Xone 32, which is a little more but the Nuo 3 seems easier to use, especially since the layout is very similar to my PCV 275. But my biggest question is...is it really an upgrade?

A bigger upgrade would be to say a Pioneer DJM 800 or an A&H Xone 62 or 92, but I don't need that many channels. I dunno if I need an effector since I really just like to mix and haven't gotten into the effects yet, and dont have the $$ for it. I also am curious about the advantage to more than 2 or 3 channels if you only have say two CDJs?. I also don't plan on getting two TTs, I used to own them but not anymore, just CDJs. I may get one TT but I just don't think I need any more than three channels. I could just save my Vestax PCV 275 as backup, since it would always be nice to have one until I find someone who might want it. But is it worth getting a Nuo 3?

Edit: I've also thought about the Pioneer DJM 400, but I think I want to stick with three channels in case I get a TT so I can play my old records..

A lot of people are upgrading from older Vestax 275's to the NUO3. It's similar to the Vestax in layout, so you'll be familiar, but it has newer features like adjustable curves and reverses on all faders, better, smoother faders (with ETERNAL upgrade optional) and better sound quality overall. You can still add external FX later on, as it does have an FX loop

Thanks i'm thinking about getting an effects unit seeing as though if I do get a TT it wont be a Techs, i'm just getting one to play records on, or rip records that I can't get digitally anymore, I regret not doing that when I had TTs. So yeah I think i'll mess around with the Nuo 3 at a GC near me and see about getting it this summer or by Christmas. The Xone 32 looks cool too but the layout seems a bit weird and the volume faders seem different. So yeah I think the Nuo 3 might be cool. Heard it doesn't have split cue but you can still monitor with the PFL which I heard allows you to cross between left and right.

I might think about getting the Nuo 4 actually, seeing as I found it at Pssl.com for $749. So hopefully it will stay that way, cause that's a pretty good price, about $250 more then the Nuo 3.

I have a Nou4 and it kicks some serious ass. The EQ's and faders are so nice.

What about the Eternal crossfader, do you really need it? Says it doesn't come with it, but that's pretty stupid that they wouldn't include that with the price of the mixer. Only the Nuo 5 does...but i guess I really don't use the crossfader anyways so it doesn't matter i guess..

So now it's between the Nuo 3 and the Nuo 4. I dunno if I'de use the MIDI capabilities of the Nuo 4 though....

I was just checking out the nuo site, and I see they use 'surface mount technology'. That is how behringer makes their gear. It means the parts are put on the circuit board and then dipped into a solder bath. They are not individually soldered (which gives a stronger join).
Nuo 5 does look nice tho

So would that make their parts inferior then, because Behringer I heard makes pretty crappy stuff, esp mixers. The Nuo 5 is way out of my league, just looking to spend $500 to $800 on a mixer, no more...

I wouldn't say the 'parts' are inferior - I don't really know as you'd have to check for sound quality. What is the issue for me is that a solder bath is the cheapest way of manufacture, common among products being built in China. This is because it requires less manufacturing. basically the componets are put on the board and then the borad is run through a pool of solder. The build quality is not as effective and excessive force on the knobs etc 'can' break the join.
The positive of this build is that it is cheaper (hence why Behringer products are less expensive) and the products should sell for less. If they're not, then that means greedy manufacturer.

It's just something to think about, thats all. it does not mean the product is no good. You'd probably find most dvd, tv etc products are going the same way due to the build efficiency.

Yeah I see, i'm just looking for a good 3 channel or 4 channel mixer for under $1,000 with good sound quality and is reliable. My Vestax PCV 275 has held up really well but with digital, I don't think the sound quality is up where it should be, due to the fact when it was made, it was made with more Turntables in mind not CDJs. The DJM 800, Xone 92 or Nuo 5 are way past what I'm willling to spend and need...
