Hey mate, I like this collection of tunes.
01. Sarah Mclachlan - World On Fire (Junkie XL Remix) -->
02. Max Graham feat. Jessica Jacobs - Gone (Original Mix)
Both of these tracks are mint, and I think they work fairly well together. I like that you used a full ten minutes of World on Fire -- definitely a mood setter, and well worth listening to all the way through. The songs don't flow together 100% perfectly, but I thought you did about the best you could technically to make the transition. Gone is of course a bit more reserved, and a step down in energy, but is a good step back off the established tone. Don't want to turn it up too fast. Plus, I still love the vocals in that song. Very underrated.
02. Max Graham feat. Jessica Jacobs - Gone (Original Mix)-->
03. Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms (Andrew Bennett Remix)
I really like your remix choice for this track. Keeps the energy a little subdued, and flows perfectly from Gone. More upbeat due to the lyrics, but not a burner so it flows. Good transition, and again, good tracks.
03. Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms (Andrew Bennett Remix)-->
04. Deep Skies - Little Bird (Mike Koglin Vocal Mix)
Once the breakbeat died, you could feel a change coming, and you didn't disappoint. Feels like the energy has picked up a little bit, which is good timing. I like the way these two tracks flowed. The Little Bird track miiiight be a bit too loud coming in, it sounds like there may be an EQ issue somewhere in the bass maybe. It's real loud, then drops real low, then hits normal as the lyrics come in. Is that intentional or the track? I hadn't heard the Little Bird track before. A little bit different vocal-wise, but I like the chorus during the breakdown and it fits, so nice choice. Again, it picks up the energy somewhat, which is good timing in this mix.
04. Deep Skies - Little Bird (Mike Koglin Vocal Mix)-->
05. Kenneth Thomas Feat Colleen Riley - Ghost In The Machine (Elevation Remix)
I really like Ghost in the Machine, and I was excited to see it in the tracklist. There's no drop in energy through the mix, as anticipation for the next track is high. Very good technically. When the vocals come in it caught me offguard -- I still thought the mix was only halfway (always a good thing to not even notice the fadeout). Mint track.
05. Kenneth Thomas Feat Colleen Riley - Ghost In The Machine (Elevation Remix)-->
06. George Acosta feat Truth - The Other Side (Original Mix)
I saw this on your tracklist and worried about the transition. But it was wasted worry. The transition was actually one of your better ones. Good maintenance of energy, the track starts a little backed-off, and is more subdued than what I expected from Acosta. Very adept choice of track.
06. George Acosta feat Truth - The Other Side (Original Mix)-->
07. Reflekt - Need To Feel Loved (Thrillseekers Remix)
While Other Side was playing out, I could almost hear the Reflekt tune meshing well. Very natural choice of song. I loved the blending of vocals, a very nice touch. Very good transition, very smooth.
07. Reflekt - Need To Feel Loved (Thrillseekers Remix)-->
08. Luminary - Amsterdam (Smith & Pledger Remix)
Another track I was glad to see on the tracklist. However, I felt they didn't flow real well. Technically the mix was good, though I thought Amsterdam was brought in a bit early. Higher energy, more bangin', and a bit quick. I like both tracks, but side-by-side they didn't work as well as they would have separated with a little distance. But I really do like the Luminary track. One of my favorite vocal trancers for a while now.
08. Luminary - Amsterdam (Smith & Pledger Remix)-->
09. Signalrunners - Corrupted (Original Mix)
Man, I love that Amsterdam build. The energy is picked up a lot, and you can't help at least tapping your toe at this point. The signalrunners keeps up the energy, and is a nice little track. Good transition once again. Hadn't heard this track before either. Makes me want to start listening to more trance again .
09. Signalrunners - Corrupted (Original Mix)-->
10. Mr Sam feat Kirsty Hawkshaw - Insight (Aira Force Remix)
Again, solid. I feel like the mix is on autopilot now, and is flowing very well.
10. Mr Sam feat Kirsty Hawkshaw - Insight (Aira Force Remix)-->
11. Ernesto Vs Bastian - Dark Side Of The Moon (Dogzilla Pure Filth Remix)
This track is a banger. It's a good way to finish out. Good mix and good vocal. Really puts the feather in a nice mix's cap.
11. Ernesto Vs Bastian - Dark Side Of The Moon (Dogzilla Pure Filth Remix)-->
12. Dogzilla - Without You (12inch Mix)
Very logical. I don't care for the Without You track as much, but it fits well, and is def. a solid closer.
The beginning of this mix was very nice, but from Ghost in the Machine you really turn it on through to the Reflekt tune. The energy picks up again a bit abruptly then. But all in all, I thought this mix was very technically good. Perhaps a bit safe in some of the track selections, but it flows very well, and there really aren't any awful tracks in here.
Technically I'd give it an 8, and for artistic expression, the French judge gives a 6.5. Some very good record choices in there, but a lot of safe bets too. Despite being technically very good, I never got the whole progression thing except for that middle portion I already mentioned.
Cheers mate! |
Wow thanks for the great feedback, and i'll be honest and say i agree with you 100% on all comments!! Considering the mix was completely unplanned and i hadn't actually played some of the tracks for a good couple of months! I'm very pleased with you review!!
Hopefully you could review my next mix which will have a little more thought placed into it!!
