(Lack of ) Quality of Mass Media

Tonight I was watching the BBC news. The first "headline" was that David Beckham quit as the captin of the English football team. Side note: Being Scottish I don't care however the BBC still takes money from me to pay for that... and also if it had been the Scottish NI or Welsh captain I doubt it would have been said....

Anyway the second headline was that two British troops had died in Afganistan.

Now is it just me or does that show so mixed up priorities? In a wider sence this kind of thing happens all the time. I try to watch Euro News more often now because it doesn't have so much (what I'd consider) filler crap in it.

Happens all of the time in the US. The news is more entertainment and they've dumbed it down a lot to make it so. You can even find this in newspapers and news magazines. We have in Detroit a paper called the Free Press. It's a decent newspaper, however too often they put entertainment, sports or some event like these two girls bodies being mixed up or that girl from MySpace who left the country to meet a guy from Jordan. They leave everything important to the inside of the front page, and they usually don't devote much to it. The newstations are a little better sometimes, but they still too sensational, not informative enough. So I share your sentiments. Funny my dad watches BBC because he thinks it's less sensational than the news in America, but I think this may not be the case anymore...
