If youve done your EQuing right in the original mix, you shouldnt need any EQuing for the whole track.

maybe a maximiser and a compressor too keep it simple...home computers dont really have the tools to do stereo inputs and all that jazz.

Well that depends. There is often the need to EQ sections of the entire mix. Example, giving the whole mix a little highend lift, or rolling off the whole mix at 20hz etc.. This kind of global EQing on the mix would be very difficult and impractical to try to apply on a track by track basis. That is why it's done durring mastering.
