hey thanks a lot guys for the info already. I've heard some horror stories already, but I think if you pay attention and do your job correctly then you should be on the safe side, but who knows. I can't understand people going up there to work and then spending all their money on drugs and whores. I know they do a drug before you're even hired, but I also thought they'd have some random drug tests every now and again. My main motivation is to get all my school loans paid off and maybe save up for more college. I just can't believe the amount of work up there and the money they are willing too pay. I don't have a wife nor kids and really not anything holding me back, so it looks like all systems go. Again thanks for all the comments.

I am in Calgary right now. McDonald's and most similar places pay $12 per hour to start. That includes Timmys. Only way you'll get over $20 is if the location is unionized. For example, a Tim Horton's located in a hospital would be unionized with the rest of the hospital employees so they would be paid a premium. But that's more of an exception.

Don't know anything specific about working the oil rigs (rig pigs as they are known), but I've heard it's $80+/hr to start. Plus they provide accomodations when working in northen Alberta. Also heard you work 3 weeks on and 2 weeks off. When on it's 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week. And it's tough work. Would have to look into it though.
