Im faced with some choices, and need help/suggestions.

So recently i have been thinking about upgrading my setup, which is currently:

2xCDJ-800 MKI
Vestax VMC 004FXW Mixer
Sony MDR V700 DJ

im thinking of upgrading to something a little more extravagant, and possibly something that will open up new possibilities for creativity with DJ'ing.

since the option of the whole MIDI, Ableton, laptop DJ'ing has become very interesting to me, i may want to learn how to use it eventually.

basically the setup im aiming for would include:
-two CDJ 1000 MK3's
-Apple Powerbook G4 (which im getting despite wether i use it for DJing or not)
-Either An EFX 1000 or an EFX 500 Unit
and i would eventually have more inputs as well, perhaps another CDJ, a turntable, and of course my Laptop as an input as well.

Here's Where i Need Help. Choosing a Mixer.

i have a very Wide Range of Choices, but the Mixers are either Pioneer or Allen and Heath. Those Choices are: the Xone: 464, 92, 3D, or 62. as for the pioneers, im looking at either a DJM 800 or 1000

so first Off the A&H mixers with no MIDI control
the 62 and 464

the 62 is probably my first choice out of these two, it has everything i need, i just have a few questions for 62 owners:

1. apparently there is no EQ'ing in the headphones when cueing a trac, but i believe in another thread it was said that was only because a certain button was pressed. is this true? because i find Eq's in the headphones very useful when boosting lows, but then again i am using MDR v700's.

2. Split cue, what exactly is it? i have a rough idea, but if someone could explain it would be much appreciated.

3. Split Cue VU Meter, correct me if i am wrong, but the right VU Meter is representative of what is being played out, the left is representing the channel selected as Cue? i love having the VU meter for the track im cueing and the the current track playing, its a personal thing just for reassurance really.

4. One thing i love about my vestax mixer, that the Xone 62 doesnt seem to have is that you can adjust how much of the cue channel and how much of the master output you can hear in the headphones, on the xone 62 can this be done, and how?

5. Lastly, there is no send/return for an EFX Unit, i usually like to play with my channels spaced out, if i only have two inputs i'll tend to use the first and last channels, so in the case of the xone 62, i would use 3 and 6, and possibly 4 for a laptop as an input, how could i possibly connect the EFX unit to send effects to the channel of my choice?

as for the Xone 464

pretty much has everything i need, and a lot of what i dont need, all those mono inputs to the left of the main mixing console, ive heard solid things about the monitoring system, and also need to know if an EFX unit can be connected to it. plus it is priced around the xone 92, so if i decide to go for a mixer with no Midi Controls, i *might* go for this one, just because its a club installation. but most likely the 62.

the 62 is my lowest price option, the 464 and 92 are mid priced options, the 3D is of course the highest priced option. its a huge range of price difference i know.

the Xone 92

by far probably the perfect mixer for me, i dont need something as extravagant as the 3D, again, a solid monitoring system, just one thing i dont like about this mixer...

the channel faders.

i could eventually get used to them, but does anyone know if it is possible to replace those channel faders with the "studio style" faders found on the 62? and 464?

that is pretty much my only gripe with this mixer, as well, is connection to an EFX unit possible?

and lastly for the A&H Mixers the Xone 3D,

pretty much the ultimate Midi Controller, though i dont see myself getting that much into using Midi.

as well, i really dont think i'll be getting the pioneer mixers, the DJM 1000 is the highest price option of all the mixers ive mentioned, as well, the 800, ive heard the sound quality isnt nearly as good as the A&H Mixers, and the 600 isnt such hot sound quality as well, and is a bit outdated and i feel cant be compared to the A&H Xone 62 and 92

so to decide on a mixer, if some people could answer my questions please, i know it was a long read, but i would greatly appreciate it...

i think ive narrowed my choices to a 62 or 92, and would convert the channel faders on the 92 to those of the 62 if possible.

Then, I blew out the candle.

I'd go for the 800. Then you wouldn't really need an EFX box and you'd save some big $.

ah...my bad. I misread your first post saying you were looking into getting into the whole MIDI/Ableton thing...so something like the NUO4 would be perfect for you (or the XONE:3D)

good point, i must say i did overlook the Nuo 4, considering i was looking at them the other week, but as i said in another post, ecler seems to have missed the boat on putting VU Metres on each channel.

Im gonna try and stick to Allen & Heath On This One though.

can anyone answer my questions about the 62, 92, split cue, and all those other questions, and if you can connect an EFX to them?

Well, personally, I dont really mind not having the individual CUE meters...its just a matter of pressing the desired channels PFL button...still, its all a matter of prefrence

As for the A&H models, you can connect external FX to any of them, but I believe they have a strange way of going about it. Dont get me wrong, I'm sure it works fine, but they have an AUX knob instead of a true SEND/RCV. I'm no A&H expert, so someone might wanna chime in here. But I'm 100% sure it can be done, and has been done before.

As for SPLIT CUE, it is a setting that allows you to split your headphones between CUE and MASTER. So one ear will be the master signal, and the other what you have in CUE. It is pretty useful when mixing in your headphones....but most mixers these days come with a CUE/MASTER knob, so you can rotate between the two.

As for the channel faders on the 92, if you like the studio style knobs, you can just buy the plastic knobs seperately and stick them onto the faders of the 92. No big deal at all.

you're a hero.

i do like the split cue, i thought thats what it was, but i was just unsure, and really doubting myself, it probably is more useful than the the Cue/Master knob (like on the Xone 32) and as for the fader knobs, i saw a guy on the Xone Forums with those knobs, he said he just emailed Allen and Heath asking for them, and they sent them right to him
