Steven Gerrard is a moron

quote:
Gerrard dubs Ronaldo a 'disgrace'

Steven Gerrard has branded Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo "a disgrace" for his part in Wayne Rooney's sending-off at the World Cup.

Gerrard was furious when Ronaldo got involved after Rooney appeared to stamp on Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho.

"Sadly a dark side stains Cristiano Ronaldo's game," writes Gerrard in his autobiography, which is being serialised in the News of the World.

"His part in Wayne Rooney's dismissal was a disgrace."

The Liverpool midfielder, who was appointed vice-captain of England this week, expressed particular dissatisfaction with the wink that Ronaldo appeared to give to his team-mates on the bench after Rooney had been dismissed.

"What really [got to] all the England players was Ronaldo's wink to his bench. It was a wink which said 'job done'. How could he do that to his Manchester United team-mate?

"On the bus after the game Wayne asked me: 'What do you think about the wink?'

"I said: 'Honestly, Wazza, if we were playing Spain and [Liverpool team-mates] Xabi Alonso or Luis Garcia winked at the referee or gave a signal for me to be sent off, I'd never speak to them again.'"

When Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo halted play and then brandished a red card, Gerrard initially thought it was for a Portuguese player.

"Players like Carvalho are damaging football, not Wayne Rooney," writes Gerrard.

"It's coached into them that when an incident like that happens, they go to work on the ref.

"Ronaldo was at the front. But the blame does not just rest with him. Five or six Portuguese players were at it."

Gerrard also believes the cockiness of England's players at the World Cup cost them dearly.

"We were not as good as we thought we were. England were guilty of over-confidence. Me and the other players placed too much pressure on ourselves by constantly claiming we could win the World Cup.

"Stupid. We talked ourselves up too much. Never again. In future tournaments we must learn to be humble."

Gerrard was also critical of former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, who stepped down after the tournament, particularly the Swede's decision to select Arsenal striker Theo Walcott, who had never played in the Premiership.

"A few decisions were wrong, like not taking five strikers. He certainly shouldn't have brought Theo Walcott to Germany.

"Not only were England embarking on an arduous World Cup campaign with only four forwards but one of them was Theo Walcott.

"I almost fell over when I heard. Now let's get one or two things right about Theo. He's a nice lad and one day he will mature into a very good player.

"But he had no right to be in Germany. None at all. I was gobsmacked to find him on the plane."

He got straight up again once rooney had been sent off. If his nuts had really been stamped on he'd be in pain for some time after.

I don't believe Carvalho's reaction was natural. That has happened to me before and believe me, he'd be doubled up in agony with his legs together if Rooney had put any kind of weight on it. Carvalho's reaction was to try and get Rooney sent off by simulating injury, and the behaviour of the other Portuguese players, C.Ronaldo in particular, was disgraceful. Too much amatuer dramatics. Once Rooney was sent off, Carvalho got up and played the rest of the game without any problems.

In England we hate this. Absolutely despite it.

Against Sweden, Michael Owen tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will miss football for a year because of it. It is a serious injury, one which has forced some players to end their careers. Yet rather than hold the game up, he crawled off the field on one knee to get medical attention and the game continued. This is the right attitude to have.

so he damaged football by getting up. pretending to be still in pain for an extra 10 minutes would be the right attitude then.

Watch this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9HH4kq_AxU

It's a game between Chelsea and Newcastle. Robert Huth stands on Alan Shearer's balls (actually stands on them with all of his weight) and no players surround the referee trying to get Huth sent off. Look at Shearer's reaction, that's what you do when someone really does stand on your balls. You don't lie there on your back with your legs apart looking at the referee - you don't have time for that because you're in too much pain.

Look, we all know the craic here. Carvalho exaggerated what happened in an effort to get Rooney sent off. Half a dozen Portuguese players surrounded him and the referee, pleading for him to give Rooney a red card. C.Ronaldo then walked over to his manager and winked at the coaches after his Man Utd teammate, Rooney, was given the red card. Utterly disgraceful behaviour which we have come to expect from Portuguese players in recent years.

This is what Gerrard is talking about, it's damaging the game. He's not just referring to one incident. When Newcastle played Sporting Lisbon or when Celtic played Porto, we saw exactly the same thing. I remember when Ricardo spent half of the game complaining about his eye after a player challenged for the ball with him, yet he never left the field to get it treated or anything. Luckily the referee knew what he was up to and ignored him for the rest of the game.

No, the right attitude is to not pretend at all. Your missing the point.
He said he obviously pretended as he wasnt in pain for long.
He didnt say that because he didnt pretend for long he had the wrong attitude.

Dolt.

Indeed, sometimes players tend to overreact but i understand their reaction. If you would just keep on walking like nothing happened and dont point it out to the ref there's a way bigger chance refs wont do anything against it.

Heres the funny verision of the above clip, with another steve G dive from the same match
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Prcxxr4bJ3E

The second one is a classic. Especially when you take into account how a week before the match he came out and said diving was ruining the game. Of course we cant forget him diving in the England friendly to win a peno before the world cup

Great play, but a stupid ****** to keep coming out with this stuff.

People in glass houses etc etc.
