i just bought an optiumus 5-in-1 digital camcorder, camera, mp3 player, web cam and voice recorder. it is a great little camera, it comes with a tripod and all that fun stuff. it says on the box that it is mac os 10 compatible, but when i try to use it with imovie, my computer doesn't recognize the camera when it's attached via USB cord. i think to make a camera work with imovie, you have to attach it via firewire cable. my new camera has neither a firewire outlet on it nor cable.

i was wondering if there is any video editing program i can download for macintosh that will enable me to use this camera with my computer.

my second option is downloading virtual pc, which i have done, but i'm downloading windows right now to load on it. if there is no video editing program i can use, would virtual pc be a suitable alternative? and if so, how do i install it so it runs properly? god i'm such a n00b!

i love the camera, and i don't want to have to take it back !!! the installation CD is windows only. if anyone can help, i'd really really appreciate it.

Firstly, go to their website and see if they have Mac specific drivers for it.

I dont know much about Macs, but if that doesnt work I guess it would be worth shoving the Windows driver disk into virtualPC and seeing if that works.

yup thats your best bet. if its mac compatible then you should atleast be able to find drivers on the manufacturers website

And the reason its probobly not recognising it is because although USB is plug-and-play, a lot of things just wont get recognised unless you install the drivers. Quite a few things (my old webcam for example) need you to install the drivers THEN connect it.

virtual pc is just as buggy as windows...... your best bet would be to try the mac forums for help on this one. i think you can get USB2.0 to I 1394 (Firewire) adapters. i know my ipod can use both....



as far as i can tell i belive you got teh DXG USA DXG-305V camera right? its the only 5 in one i could find at a resonable price, but it doesnt say that it is mac compatible.... you may have to run it under virtual pc afterall....
