Sony MDR-700's are NOTORIOUS for being fragile. From 2000-2003 I sent 3 pairs back to the sony repair shop in Massachusetts to be fixed on three different occassions for the same joints that kept breaking. Finally the repair facility got so fed up with me that they upgraded me to MDR-900's at no extra charge. A slightly better headphone and for all intensive DJ purposes were more than adequate.
Pioneer gave me a pair of HDJ-1000's to try and I found them to be much more comfortable than anything sony had to offer. Sound quality was terrible, but no worse than sony's. But once again they were fragile, and after two replacements at no cost for damaged parts, pioneer had also had enough of my shinanigans. They even wrote me a letter asking if I'd been abusing the product. So from 2003 to 2005 I used pioneer's exclusively.
Over years of using headphones, I think the best value, most durable, and decent sound quality would be from sennheiser. They may not look flashy, but they have crisp highs that don't pierce your eardrums and powerful lows for that rich sound. Without a doubt, my suggestion to you would be the HD-25.
