unless you like a great sounding quality headphone that will break if a feather lands on it, i would recommend against the triport

I'd get the Grado SR80...it's sweet sounding...only drawbacks is that it's an open can system (sound will leak) and takes a lil time to get used to since it's not the most comfortable headphones

I also own the Senheiser PX100...nice phones if you're on the road

sennheiser hd-280 $75-100

sennheiser hd-25 $180ish

280 has less bass, but is very crisp and clear. i actually use these as my djing headphones cuz i just fell in love with the clarity. downside is the plastic cracks after about a year or so. you can definitely still use it after the cracks appear, but you just have to be careful not to bend them too wide outwards.

25 looks really cheap and flimsy, but they sound GREAT. really good bottom end. very loud and clear. downside is the cups don't swivel. its a fixed headphone.

Sony MDR-700's are NOTORIOUS for being fragile. From 2000-2003 I sent 3 pairs back to the sony repair shop in Massachusetts to be fixed on three different occassions for the same joints that kept breaking. Finally the repair facility got so fed up with me that they upgraded me to MDR-900's at no extra charge. A slightly better headphone and for all intensive DJ purposes were more than adequate.

Pioneer gave me a pair of HDJ-1000's to try and I found them to be much more comfortable than anything sony had to offer. Sound quality was terrible, but no worse than sony's. But once again they were fragile, and after two replacements at no cost for damaged parts, pioneer had also had enough of my shinanigans. They even wrote me a letter asking if I'd been abusing the product. So from 2003 to 2005 I used pioneer's exclusively.

Over years of using headphones, I think the best value, most durable, and decent sound quality would be from sennheiser. They may not look flashy, but they have crisp highs that don't pierce your eardrums and powerful lows for that rich sound. Without a doubt, my suggestion to you would be the HD-25.

I just think you would look silly wearing dj closed ear headphones to listen to a cd. Not to mention dj headphones are designed for sound quallity but more for islation. Check out sennheissers street models they sound very good and dont weigh down your head.

Bliss is right about walking around wearing huge DJ headphones being pure silly. If you are looking to isolate noise and get awesome sound quality, you must give "SHURE" a try.

if you're willing to not put a restriction on your wallet, you can always go for the grado gs 1000 (only $995 )

on a more serious note, I used this site when shopping around for headphones

if you're happy with what you read, then go for it. I'd try them out first at a electronic store if possible before making a final decision
