a simple noobish wiring question (1337 mspaint skillz inside!!!)

Actually I have two questions (AHA! I tricked you all!).

Firstly...

The green thingy is my sound card and it's output. Would it be ok if I used a splitter and put on two different sets of speakers (as shown in image 1) onto the same output - one of which I would occasionally turn off? (in other words, are there any dangers to this?)

second...

Supposed the above configuration works - what if I split the input as well, to have the two sets of speakers both receive their signal from either my mixer's output or my soundcard's output witout ever having to unplug either one?

Can I basicly just play around with splitters, adapters and extensions without having to worry about any kind of fire/explosion hazard? (and yes I do realize the sound quality degrades with this kind of careless wiring)

Yes you can do both, the sound quality will be dropped, but if you use some not too shabby splitters then you should be ok, I have done similar stuff as well, like from my iMac output to both my mixer and amplifier, its fine, but the more wiring you add, the more interference you can pick up.

Big thick high gauge cables are your friends.. and Monster cables are overrated. Best go to a proper music shop and get some high gauge cables custom made.
