I decided to invest in a synth to produce my bass lines. I will be producing mostly Hip-Hop.

Any suggestions on the Synth I should buy??

Hip-Hop you probably just want a deep eq'd sine. Vanguard is pretty fat for bass. If you want a synth just for bass tho, get an analogue mono synth.

Cheap, chearfull and adds what's needed to the bottom. A million homies swear by it.

Downside is that it's an analog FX box that requires you have a mixer and multiple outs as a minimum to use properly..

Haven't you heard, they just now released a hardware version of the Moog!! It's the first time a VST plugin has been converted into a hardware synth!

I just did some research! It looks pretty mint but the actual synth is very expensive (approx.: 1,300 USD). Is it worth the investment??? or should I just buy the VST?

Actually my comment was sarcastic Moog is the oldest synthesizing company in the world, they were the first to mass produce and market synths (the Moog Modular). The Little Phatty (their latest synth) is a regeneration of the Minimoog, a line of synths produced in the 70's / 80's . See this: http://www.vintagesynth.com/moog/moog.shtml
They are very very expensive, collectibles, and pretty rare (so to speak...) . If you wipe you butt with cash, I'd without a doubt tell to buy a Minimoog or a Little Phatty, but some of us can't do that. In that case, I prefer the Minimonsta VST over Arturias Minimoog V.

Another synth, which I have just discovered, well, not a synth, but a sound chip, the SID chip (MOS 6581). It was the synthesizer chip in the old Commodore 64 computers, and it's capable of sooo much more than just chiptunes/arcade music. This thing really rips for bass sounds (don't believe me, check this out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=lnTh4e0b-ic )

There are a couple of manufacturers that have ripped apart old commodores, harvested the SID chip and turned them into standalone synths. Elektron SIDstation and HardSid (a PCI board for your computer with 4 SID chips) are examples of this, as well as the MidiBox SID synth you see in the video. It's a home made synth, using a SID chip for sound generation.

Sid sounds are becoming increasingly popular in modern music, especially House (electro house & progressive house especially).
there is a VST emulation of the sid, called QuadraSID, made by ReFX, it's quite good.

Well money is an issue for me at the moment. So Moog is out of the question for now.

The video you showed me, is this a comercially available synth?

Get a Clavia Nordlead3 with an fx unit if you're into synth sounds

or a Yamaha MOTIF Es for mixed sounds

if money is a problem, well i guess vst should do the trick. in fact many pros i know for fact, that have hardware analogue synths prefer to use vst for basslines, really!

the best vsti instrument for any type of bass , for any style of music i know is: spectrasonics trilogy. its just the best and can compete with any hardware synth. so its sample based , but its samples are sooooooooooo gooooooooood!!!

a hardware synth is a good thing to have, but if u not have enough money and u end up buying some cheap synthy, ure screwed.

trilogy vst sounds as good and dont have problems with midi sync delay and midi audio connections, give it a shot u wont regret it
