I'm going to guess that the most cost effective way is to pay someone else that has all the equipment to do it.

Kinko's CD Printing

They condone music piracy!

Music

Present your original material professionally on a CD with custom labeling and graphics. Put together selected songs for special events such as weddings, birthdays or graduation and send them to friends and family.

My sister who is a pro wedding photographer actually gets requests from the couples if she could design a mixed cd for them with cd booklet and stuff and she refuses to do it as it's copyright infringment.

You could use a CD labeler like CD Stomper, but be aware that sticking paper labels makes the discs thicker and heavier, and several CD playerd don't like it (DVD players especially).

The best option is to use printable CD-R's. They're almost the same price as standard CD's and you'll need a printer that can print onto discs like the Canon IP3000 or IP4000.

i knew a kid in one of my art classes a few years ago who would buy the completely blank CD-Rs (no logos or writing on the top of them) and he'd draw his own designs on them with different colored Sharpie markers. i was flipping through his CD book one day and there were a few CDs that he had copied and then replicated the original design, and you almost couldn't tell it was drawn on with markers.

so if you can draw, do something like that

i'd recommend staying away from the stick-on labels, because they should only be used in certain CD players. i put one in my CD player in my car, and after i took it out after 10 or 15 minutes, the label had gotten all gooey and melted and would have fucked up my entire CD player if i didn't take it out.
