4 beat loops.....

correct me if im wrong... but as iv been playing with my cdj's.... iv been trying to do some morillo style loopin and what not *spare me.. i know some poeple hate it,... but i like it* and i noticed that if i have a track on my 800 and a track on my 1000 beatmatched... and i hit the 4 beat loopbutton on my 800.... it becomes out of beat and i have to readjust...

is this normal? i thought a perfect 4 beat loop wouldnt need readjusting

anyway i can fix this or everytime i want to loop im going to have to readjust?

True, but the problem is that neither loop is going to be perfect. On the 800, when you press the 4 beat loop button, it is going to be looping itself based on the BPM count it reads, which is not always 100% accurate. Thus, odds are you loop won't be either.

Personally, you're probably better off doing your own In/Out loops and tweaking their In/out points for perfection.

I've been playing around with layering/looping my tracks a lot lately. 90% of the time I have to adjust the loop, whether I use the auto-loop feature or manually set the in/out points. The loop is rarely ever going to be perfect, because it's based off of the time in a track rather than the actual "spot" on the track (if that makes any sense), so you'll always have to do some sort of adjusting eventually.

See the two orange buttons in the top left labeled "Realtime Cue, In/Out, Reloop/Exit"? To adjust the end of the loop, press the Out button and move the platter ever-so-slightly (Clockwise extends the loop, Counterclockwise shortens it). Watch the time display on your CDJ as you adjust the loop so you don't overdo the adjustment. Press the Out button when you're done adjusting the loop so that you can make pitch adjustments, otherwise you'll massively screw up the loop.

it is possible to get a loop perfect with practice. of course, doing it live with another tune beat-matched, you'd better be quick to hit the loop out and fix it if you didn't get it perfect

you can get a four beat loop to sound perfect but if you plan to mix in another track while looping it it will start to drift. if you need a perfect loop to mix with use a dj sampler unit.

you can also set the loop before hand on a cdj then just rewind it to its cue point. then when you mix it in the cd will play through and when it gets to the loop you set it will loop automaticly.

That actually leads into an Eddie Halliwell (used to death) effect.

If you loop the part in the breakdown just before the beat kicks in you can shorten up the loop by pressing the loop out button until you shorten it so much that you get a really harsh digital screetch from the length of the loop.
Just make sure that you have selected one of the cue points at the appropriate place and just slap that when you have had enough and the track kicks in.
alternatively you can just release the loop and you will play the loop one more time before the beat kicks in.

Most of you probably knew that anyway but incase you didn't.

Cheers
Nem

on a CDJ 800 thats right, but you cant do the following on an 800...but on a 1000 instead

just set your loop so the out point is RIGHT before the beat kicks in, (the wave display is a good visual aid for this) and then press the in adjust button, use the jog wheel to move the in point forward so that you achieve that same "screetch" then just exit the loop and the beat will kick in right there.

"You are virtually the ring leader, the way I see it."
Then, I blew out the candle.
