Dancing Dude Review: JOOF

what a magical night!! i was so excited b/c i had yet to see john at spundae and i knew he loved playing there and i knew he would destroy the place. and destroy it he did!!!!!

michelle and i get there around 9:30, see a pretty long line starting to form. we visit with lots of ta's, get our special ernesto drinks and then it's time to wait patiently for john. cody lee was keeping the main room busy getting down to his funky beats with that signature smile and grooves behind the decks!

my brother and big group of special effects friends finally show up so that keeps me busy until i hear someone say, john's here. and then it's off to say hi, take some pics, and talk to him for a few minutes. by this time the main room has gotten packed and the electricity is palpable!

i get my spot right in front just left of booth, reza is center and ruben is just right of the booth so we have it covered! john sets up and drops the first track and bam! he unleashed and i knew this was gonna be insane. the crowd just instantly uped it's energy from an already frenzied pace and i got tingles all over my arms.

i get invited to come up into the landing by the dj booth and that was way cool b/c i got to watch john work his magic up close. he is flawless and perfect behind the decks. as the crowd's energy grew his energy grew and the tracks just got better and better. and all with many of his cds back in london due to the recent terrorists threats!!

one of the best parts was always looking just center and right and seeing reza and ruben and smiling and going crazy at all the same drops and insane moments and i also knew that ruben would be there texting himself the tracks so that as we have seen, he can give us the track list.

i couldn't believe the 3 hour set just flew by. i danced and went crazy and was dripping with sweat but was having the time of my life! how much better can it get? the happiest club on the planet, the happiest dj on the planet = one of the happiest nights for me! hypersky and i texted each other during the set and i showed john the texts and he loved it.

the most unselfish moment of the night goes to Dj Bob!! i love you for this. one of my favorite tracks is on the ground and that was one of the tracks that was resting safely back in london. bob pulls the track out of his cd book and hands it to me to give to john, he takes it, gives the thumbs up and drops it second to last! thank you so much bob, i know you wanted to drop that track and that was way cool of you! and the final track of the night i have to get! " children"

that was the most perfect way to end the most perfect set. i love that track. little jon said that the track was about 10 years old. i don't care. it is amazing and should be dropped more. i have seen john 5-6 times and this was by far the best set i have seen to date! it was unreal. more than i could have wished for. a perfect evening.

bob was a tangle of nerves before he got on but as soon as he dropped the first track he had the crowd in the palm of his hands! he did an amazing job wrapping up the insanity that john started! i got down out of the dj booth around the 3rd or 4th track b/c bob had so many friends up there it was getting a little tight. i found my brother and his wife and we watched from the sidelines and then finally made it outside to cool off.

my brother and the effects group spent alot of time in the backroom for victor's set, which was happening at the same time of john's they said the backroom was going off and victor was superb. wish i coulda danced to it but oh well. better planning next time victor, better planning

so the end of the night we are talking to john and someone said to him, you know she is your number one fan and he just smiled real big. yeah, i know, i'm a twelve year old girl and i act so silly about him but it's b/c i love his music and his energy and his positive attitude. there is no one quite like him. so we go meet up with john and a.j. at mel's for breakfast to decompress before everyone goes home. that was exactly how my night went the first time i met john, dance, dance, dance then let's go to a diner for breakfast.

woody, julie, michelle and i had a blast hanging out and discussing everything from music to tattoos. it was great that when ruben called my phone. i had john answer since ruben had to leave and couldn't hang with us. then john had me call him back b/c he wanted to ask ruben about some track he dropped! also, thanks a.j. for playing along, i know you were tired! on a crazy note, john said that 2 of the terrorists that they caught last week were schedule on his flight to washington a few days ago!!!! only john's luck. also, michelle and i were joking with him about how we almost made a sign for him since she always makes them for ferry and markus but we didn't get a chance and he was like "well if ferry and markus get signs then i want a sign" so i searched for my sharpie then realize that ben never gave it back to me so michelle pulls out her lipstick and i draw on a placemat spundae la loves joof. ya know, he's just goofy like that. very funny and easy going.

so we say our goodbyes and michelle and i head to northridge to finish out the night/morning with my brother and my effects friends. such a long but wonderful night. it was so great having my brother there and i'm sure many of you could see the silly pride on my face everytime i introduced him to you but i love him.

the only gggrrrrrr of the evening was, as i'm dacing away a guy comes up to me and asks "so are you gonna try and take this dj home tonight" indicating john. and i turn to him a bit taken aback and i said "no, first of all he's married and second i don't aspire to sleep with djs, i just love his music and that's what you are seeing. i'm sure ruben and reza weren't asked that and they were going as crazy if not more than me!!!! i just don't get why some guys think that is what so many of the girls in the EDM scene are all about. yes, i know there are some out there and they give the rest of us a bad rap but still, it irritated me

thank you so much mike lord for the drinks and for letting me give john his headset adapters. and thank you ruben for calling and checking on me later on sunday and for the track list. by far one of the best nights of the year for me, maybe the best. thank you michelle for driving my ass all the way out to northridge. good times, good times

life is strange but filled with amazing moments and one of those amazing moments for me was saturday!

I had so much fun Saturday... Man, I can't hang anymore. I'm getting too old for this. Getting home at 7am is not fun! Hahaha Hanging out with J00F, the girls, and AJ was awesome. J00f's a really cool guy.

Oh yeah, seeing Ludacris & Lil John with their bodyguards at Mel's Dinner was hillarious.

This was me... AJ, Do you know who Ludacris is?
AJ: Luda who?

ME: Girls, Ludacris & Lil Jon are there?
Girls: WHO?
Sarah: (After finally realizing what I said, and Ludacris & Lil Jon had already left) WOODY, How come you didn't tell me? He's from Atlanta!
ME: I've been trying to tell you GIRLS!!!!!!!

DOH!

Tilt - Children?

The original is by Robert Miles... Are you sure you don't mean Robert Miles - Chilren (J00F Remaster)?

JESSE DON'T QUESTION ME!!!! Tilt remixed "Robert Miles - Children" a while ago and called it "Tilt - Children" then John remixed the remix. Dig around in the J00F forum and you will find the story. If you look around J00F's tracklists from 2002-2003 you will find it in many of his sets.

How do you know ? Ruben kept hitting on me and wanted to take me home but I told him I'm a classy guy , I don't do that.

Still speechless about the show. I knew I was going for a ride, but my God, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. John took us to heaven, hell, and multiple dimensions inbetween. Not only is his EQing, programming, and mixing flawless, he's a great engineer. I've never heard anyone (except M.I.K.E.) use that Xone 464 and make it sound so clear. He doesn't build to a few climaxes like an Armin or a Sasha set, he sets you up with a mellow intro track, and hammers away with every track, creating multiple crescendo after another; absolutely no filler tracks ladies and gentlemen-- just relentless beating after beating. John is the epitome of what "trance" music still stands for in my opinion. He does his job and he does it well-- to get the crowd to move their asses. On top of that, he's a pleasant person to be around: funny, charming, easy-going. I have to agree with Sarah and say this was one of the best gigs I've ever been to-- I'm still blown away.

Ruben, thanks for that tracklist buddy. I didn't know playing a few JOOF and psy tracks for you would change the way you saw the genre forever. All for the better And it's so crazy how JOOF called you! How awesome!

It was great seeing all the regulars. Mike "Oh My Lord," Gehzumteufel, Sarah the cat and her family , Riia, Michelle, Carrie, Thraxamus (thanks for the ride bro; Taco Bell is great at 5am!), Julia for a brief bit, Yunor Chavez, Woody-- I saw you but we never said hi, d'oh , Bob "Psy Master" Motamedi and whoever else I forgot!

Cheers,

Ref
