Balancing school and work [LF: a job]

[blush]
yeah yeah gayest thread i've ever made....

I would like to possibly find a job that pays $12/hr or even more plus benefits. is this sort of thing possible? I've always worked in the restaurant industry, never left. [i'm also fully aware i'm not really qualified for a higher wage job]

Is it possible to find a job that pays this much AND BALANCE SCHOOL? or would it mean I would have to stop school and work fulltime to order to get a job like that.

How do you guys do it? I know TONS OF YOU DO THIS!

Advice? Suggestions? or stupid comments welcome.

thanks tota.

oh another question... is anyone doing an apprenticeship?

[/blush]

I've been working full-time throughout college and now university. School was always part-time, but I did manage to do 4 courses a semester while in college. In university, 2 is a good number, sometimes 3 if it's an easier mix of classes.

I'm assuming you want to move away from the restaurant industry? Perhaps look into an administrative type of job through an agency, that should land you in and around $12/hr

How were your grades? I guess you pretty much left the weekends to do your assignments?

thanks. yeah i never went through an agency, knowing that I would be back to school full time and work part-time.

Straight As in college. Didn't spend much time on homework/assignments at all (business diploma). College was easier than OAC.

In university, my grades are still up there, but not quite as good. Much more time is spent studying and doing assignments, especially for exams. I wasn't partying when in college, so that might be a small factor in the decline of my grades.

it's really stressful balancing both work and school, especially during university and college, but breathe deep and all will be a - ok! I balanced a full time job at a hotel in toronto aND went to school for new media arts at ryerson University - it was so stressful and I managed to have two anxiety attacks (they are fukkin' scary~) anyways, I had a little social life and was working alll the time.

Good luck with School Kids!

xx

if you were in the restaurant business then i'd suggest bartending b/c depending where you're working you can make way more than 12/hr and you don't need many shifts a week to be making good moneys. only thing is you need smart serve which you prolly already have and it would be helpful to take a course in it. and like graham said... connections connections connections! gl tho!

It’s all about sacrifice in my opinion. You can get a very good part time job that pays well and still manage your education; you just won’t have much free time if you plan on doing both successfully.

So if you’re okay with sacrificing some social time during your study, you’re good to go.
