Smoking ..umm..something Newbie DJ first recording

Hey everyone, I've only been DJ'ing for about a month and would like to get some feedback on my set. I recorded it last week, it starts off in a relaxed trance/prog type flow and gradually builds into and ends with some epic tunes. I would greatly appreciate any constructive critism as this will help me to get better. Anyways, here's the link:

a tracklist would probably get you some listens.

A lot of people are interested in helping out new djs and giving them feedback. Maybe try looking at some of the other amateur threads with replies to see how they presented their set. There is many ways to do it, none right or wrong, just some that get more attention that others.

First things first, I hate hate HATE Megaupload.com. It's very irritating how it makes you go through it's rediculous ads to get to the download. Use Filefront.com. It's very simple to upload to, and it's even easier to download from.

I'll post a review after you release a tracklist.

Review:

For your first time, good job!

I'm not really fan of the tracks you selected, I like more uplifting stuff but if you were going for a epic sort of feel, then I think you got it. Some of the transitions had overlapping melodies, and some of them just didn't fit together harmonically.

I'll leave more info when I finish listening.. but so far my comment is "bout time.. it took you 50 minutes to play a track I like"

you have some "ok tracks" closer to the end. i'm not sure what to say as far as mixing, as it was alright, however, I couldn't enjoy the mixing too much as most of the tracks (pretty much all in the first 50 minutes) didn't hold interest for me.

painted black is ok.. and from there it picks up to alright sound..

the track at 48 is something I would consider playing same too for 52 minute (if it were a softer remix) track at 59 is another track that I think is good from my past listening

have you listened to crystal clouds.. as I think they put out music you may like.

your closer is ok too.. so really it is from around 48 to the end that i find listenable.. the opener is alright to... (I have fairly high standards for music I enjoy though.. I would only consider playing/listening to the track mentioned if I had knowledge and choice..
the other tracks wouldn't keep much interest at all for me. (so maybe what you have up to around 8:40 and from 48 on but the 40 minutes in between???

all in all though.. no serious wrecking I only noticed one slight feel glitch at 47.46 but otherwise the mix didn't have too much awe.. the tracks I did enjoy pretty much I've heard before around a year ago.

pretty good for a first shared mix though.

thanks for sharing it, I look forward to hearing what you do in the future.

thanks ashley, I appreciate the constructive critism. After listening to my mix a couple more times, I agree with you about the middle of the set: it does get kind of boring. I'm changing my style to be more consistent with the second half of the mix, which I think I did a pretty good job mixing and on song selection and creating a good flow. Again, thanks for your opinion. As for a tracklist....

Air Hustlers - Down Time feat. Colleen Riley - Original Mix
Smith & Pledger pres. Aspekt - Hi Jack - Instrumental Mix

Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms - Damien Heck Remix
Hiver & Hammer - Fusion 2006 - Funabashi Mix
Above & Beyond feat. Andy Moor - Air for Life - Original Mix
PQM Project - Babe I'm Gonna Leave you - Markus Schulz Pass
Purple Haze - Adrenaline - Original Mix
4 Strings - Take Me Away 2006 - Purple Haze Remix
Dogzilla - Without You - John O'Callaghan Remix
Dave 202 - Generate the Wave - Original Mix
Fictivision - Escape - Fictivision Mix
Eternity - Alibi - Thillseekers Remix

If I were to go back and redo this, I think I would keep the songs in blod.

Well, I just finished listening to your mix. Are you sure that you have only been spinning for a month? It really did not sound bad at all. And you track selection is pretty damn good. Your mixing is very good for only doing this for a month. When I was a month old in DJ years, I was not even close to where you are. I say keep up the good work and if you keep at it, you have a very bright future!!!!

Rock On,

Mike (Are you using cds, records, or software??)
