I'm super ****ed, help!

Ok, so I spin vinyl, but I just found out the ONE record store I go to in the Boston area is closing temporarily until they find a cheaper place to rent space. So, that leaves me with having to use the CDJs in my radio station, but I've NEVER used them successfully before. How much different are they from turntables? The one thing I can never figure out is when the track is in and I want to go back to hold the track at a certain spot, what do I press? I try moving the wheel counterclockwise, but that doesn't do it, and I think I'm just not doing it right LOL. Any tips?

First let us know what CDJ it is, because some emulate the feel of vinyl more than others. Like the CDJ 1000 and 800s have vinyl mode, that feels a lot like vinyl (not identical) and the scratching is similar. Others like the CDJ 200 or 100 or some older or cheaper CDJs don't...and others like the Denon DN-S3500 have a spinning platter like TTs do.

I'm very positive they are CDJ 100s or 200s, most likely 100s since the station is cheap as hell.

Haven't used them. I can tell you that they wont have vinyl emulation, so it will probably just have a small jog wheel to search through tracks like the CDJ 200 does, but probably not as good as the CDJ 200's jog wheel. You will just have to search through the tracks for your cue point and lock it by pressing "cue" and then pressing play when your ready to bring in the track...that's pretty much what most CDJs do.

But when I use the jogwheel on the ones at the station to try to rewind the track it doesn't work, it like holds it sort of at the point in the track that's currently playing and when i stop it goes all the way back a few bars. Is there any way to make it so that as I rewind or fast forward the track I can hear the "scratching" or whirling sounds the track makes, similar to how you'd do it to cue a point on vinyl?

Press play the track can be paused and then move the jogwheel around. That's the closest I think you can come....I seriously haven't used a CDJ 100, so someone who has used one will be more help.

cdj 100's are hard to use. first of all they do not emulate vinyl

so ur gonna have to pause the track then search not with the jogwheel but with the search arrows untill u find where u want to cue... then u hit and hold cue

then u press play and cue and play and cue untill u get it right.

becareful with the jobwheel.. its very sensitive. and pitch is .1 unlike the .05 of the 800's and .02 of the 1000's

using a cdj-100s is pretty simple. i've had mine for ages. when you're cueing a track try to do it like this: start the track by pressing play and then pause it with the play/pause button near the first beat. then with the jog wheel try to locate the first beat exactly. the cdj will play the frames when it's paused and when you hear kind of a clicky noise on the first beat set your cue point there by pressing the cue button. then as you're ready to start your track simply press the play button and it starts playing the track from that point where you saved the cue point.

you can search with the jog wheel. and what's up with pressing play and cue and play and cue and play and cue and play and cue? i never do that. i set my cue point once and it's there. no hassle at all.
