Arrow DJ Tiesto - A Tear In The Open (Original)

I know, i know - It's from 2004, it is by Tiesto and "Tiesto is responsible for everything in and between Iraq war, Alaska oil spill and bad-trance".

That asides, how many of you feel that this is the most underrated and one of the best tracks in the last couple of years?

Even the most hardcore Tiesto fans don't list it in their favourites, so i often wonder why it didn't get the plaudits it deserved?

It's one of my alltime favourites though and i rely it as the most trusted track to pump it up, especially on long drives. In my opinion, this track is a classic and maybe the trance-addicts of the next generation might be able to appreciate it more.

It's a good tune but I feel the production could use some tightening up - especially in the percussions. Tiësto's standard perc set just doesn't work in this one.

One of the regrets is, it didn't get mixed enough - Hardly any comes to my mind apart from the more melodious Leama and Moor mix (i can listen to that one when going to sleep) as opposed to the hard-base-kicking original one.

Also, i believe that the climax was too short - he peaks out and ends abruptly, leaving you gasping for more. I think the climax should have been extended by about atleast a minute.

Btw, any idea what the vocals mean or what language they are in?

It's probably the best from the Just Be album, though that's not a very difficult standard to meet. Good track, but it's overshadowed by earlier productions in a broader scope of Tiesto's career.

I think a techier remix of the track could have really made it big. The original lacks an edge that seems it should have.

definately the best of the of the album i really like it though i agree with cobalt in that a techier harder remix would have been amazing of it.

The vocals have an interesting history (research thanks [groovypants]!), and have been used in many tracks prior to A Tear In The Open:

Signum - Cura Me
OTT - Splitting An Atom
Pole Folder & CP - Dust
Angel Tears - Ishka
etc

I think the popular sample used in dance tracks originally comes from the Gaelic band Capercaillie, but that's just a guess from what I've read.

Arrow No lyrics available!

I think this review by someone sums up the track appropriately.

quote:
DJ Tiësto - A Tear In The Open

Tiësto visits gaelic grounds with this haunting epic tune, whose lyrics reflect a love long lost.

The track starts up with ethereal vocals and classical elements before a solid bass groove takes over.

The track builds up with guitar like twangs and percussion before the break which introduces dark and menacing pads which, when added to the bassline, drive the tune with a lot of power.

A second break adds the vocals, then its straight back to the pads which scream away to the end of the track.

A true track which recalls the golden era of trance.

Impressive stuff!

Meh. It's not bad, but I think it's far from the best tiesto production. And I'd consider myself a tiesto fan when it comes to his productions.

'Dust' was the first track to use the vocals from what I know. The vocal is taken from a Spectrasonics sample set called Mother Earth I believe.

Not so much Tear in the Open, but Im surprised that the Nyana single didnt get a hell of a lot more exposure. Everyone whored over the Adagio remix, which isnt that great, and left Nyana to gather dust.

Hardly surprising since Nyana is the weakest tune on the album. Uninspiring melody, weak production, just plain boring. In the same series with his remix of Breezer...

It's the only track on the album that doesn't credit anyone else and it clearly shows.
