With an enoromus music collection, how does a TA go about organizing the music?

What kinda software or tools are helpful to organize music?

Is a bigger hard drive a good investment? And how big does it need to be?

I don't use any tools, I sort my music by genres, in regular folders. Oh, and I do renaming and tagging manually as well.
Got 160 GB HDD and around 110 GB of music. Planning to take another 160 GB HDD, or maybe even 250 GB if the prices drop in near future.

I use this for tagging and renaming every mp3 track i have. http://www.id3-tagit.de/

Every track is named TRACK - ARTIST - TITLE in a folder ARTIST - ALBUM which in turn is an a folder simply by ARTIST.

Then it is split down into folders named; ALBUMS, COMPILATIONS, LIVESETS, RADIO SHOWS and SINGLES

I've got 3 folders: tracks, mixes, albums

Each is full of folders, according to release date, dj, and artist, respectively.

It took a while to overhaul, but I'm glad I did.

Just got a 320 gb external to throw stuff on. I've got 2 250 internal ones, but the one I was keeping music & what not on is full, & I don't want to have to put anything but apps & the OS on the other one.

2TB of external HD space

every song in its own folder:

ARTIST_TRACK_(REMIX)_BPM_KEY

with loops and samples cut out in ableton .alc format and put into that same folder.

I sort with racks (long live the hard copy!). As for specifics, I use a very simple, yet effective, organizational method.

Good ------> Racks
Crap ------> Street

My albums go in alphabetical (and chronological within each artist, for the hell of it) order on some shelves. My compilations have some shelves and the rest live in a box. My singles live in another box and all the copied/illegal shit goes wherever I put it. MP3 wise I just have a monstrous list of tracks and let Windows deal with sorting them.
