why the hell is ohio state/texas not the lead story on espn?

One of (if not THE) biggest games of the season is on today when #1 The Ohio State University travels to #2 Texas to take on the longhorns in a rematch of last years American football thriller. However, rather than focus their coverage on this huge event, ESPN.com leads off with Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies. I mean sure, Howard has jacked 55+ home runs this season and single-handedly kept the Phillies in the running for any hope of wild card but isnt a matchup of the two top teams in the country just a wee bit more important? Not to mention, the combined population oif ohio and texas tops out over 32 million, providing a much huger target audience than Pennsylvania's 12.5 mil. And thats only if people outside those states dont care at all. I have a good feeling alot of people will be talking about the Buckeyes/Longhorns game long after the Phillies have faded into the oblivion that is the NL Wild Card Race.

Theres no way. Football is the dominant sport here in the US and it's paydays are way bigger than baseball; perhaps because every game is important, rather than every series. Additionally, Ohio State and Texas are the two biggest universities in the US. Advertising for this game is averaging just below 1 million per 30 second spot, and they expect an audience tonight of 60-80 million.

espn must have seen this thread because i notice now that osu.texas is now the lead story. Good job tree!
