Touching the platter on direct drive decks will NOT hurt the motor. It won't hurt the motor on belt driven decks, either, for that matter. With belt driven decks however, you do have to be careful, because every time you slow down/stop the platter you are making the belt stretch. The more the belt gets stretched, the less power gets transferred so the less torque you have. I don't mean to say the platter will spin slower, because it won't, but it won't have as much torque.
But with direct drive decks, you are completely safe. You can stop it and spin it backwards if you want, all that happens is that you put a load of effort into repelling a magnetic field. |
Hahaha, are you joking?
Think about it logically... the pressure you put on the motor, the more stress it will be under. Surely you don't think the platter turns itself?
