Serato is there for those who still love the analog approach. They don't want to give up the feel of vinyl. Besides, Serato and Ableton aren't close to the same program since one's a sequencer and the other's an mp3 vinyl emulator. Now what would be cool would be if Ableton somehow found a way to incorporate a Serato-esque feature into a future version. That way it'd be pretty much all-purpose, but it'd be tough to figure out how to get all of Ableton's features to form with Serato features and the like (i.e mashups and live editing on an emulated vinyl taken from an mp3).

If that last part made no sense, then just don't pay any attention to me.

i currently have 2 cdjs...all my music is digital. So it looks like me buying serato would be kind of a waste of money. It would be nice to have all that music organized though.

Not Really, I also have CDJ's but I would prefer to have Serato.

Burning the music to CD's consumes a lot of time.

and it would be more organized.

I use serato.. i like keeping the tt's involved! I am getting ready to make the big step and buy the djm800 and ableton that way i can incorporate ableton in my sets, but i think it will take me a long time before i'm ready to use ableton and serato together at a gig (correct me if i'm wrong)

Not tryin to hijack your thread, but does anyone here use ableton and serato together when they perform? How is it? I bet its complicated and hard as fuck!! i'm gonna give it a shot eventually...

It isn't too hard if you edit all of your tracks to be the same BPM and leave the decks quartz lock on. And fire loops from Ableton at the same BPM.

i'm not 100% into ableton as a live DJ tool, so i must ask

aren't there MIDI beatclocks for this? i've never used ableton in conjunction with decks (except for a quick fuckaround on a friend's XONE:3D) but aren't there things that take care of feeding ableton the tempo of your current music, which in turn, allows you to seemlessly layer loops over it?
