Your Thoughts

I'm debating getting out of the Army. It's been now 3+ years,.. yes you old school TAers that knew me before TA know how it was. But, I do realize that you all will say do whats best blah blah blah...

got it, roger...

but..... is it something that the civilian world needs me to be back in?? i miss Florida like you all cant imagine..., but my job offers me more opportunities than you can ever fathom .... and the more i type this i feel like I answer my own question, but I like to hear intelligent input... not hookey C0R malarkey...

thoughts, questions, concerns... input???

How much longer are you contractually obligated to the army?

hey buddy, there way i see it is this. it's a job, like any. with a lot of restrictions. seems to me you're not entirely satisfied with your army career. well, you can be not entirely satisfied at another job back in florida with your family and friends.

Brent,

Is it possible for u to get out of Army and come back to it later if you decide the civilian world isn't that great afterall?

It always seems to me that you always enjoy what you are doing @ the Army (cuz I used to hear it alot). You might have the best retirement plan 20 years from now but you might look back in your life saying you didn't enjoy it to fulliest. The ultimate question is.... Is this really worth it at the end?

Hey Brent,

Here is my two cents for what it is worth.

To retire in 20 years is the best gift of all. I know about the army's retirement plan and to still get medical for the rest of your life and half the wage you were making as a LTC would be posh. You would still be young with the whole world ahead of ya. I know home is where your heart wants to be and all of us would love to have ya closer, but it is hard to give up all that you COULD have in the army for what you hope to have in Flordia. If you were a grunt PFC right now with the hopes of making it to SFC by the end of 20 years, I would say "bail as fast as you can!!" But you do not have to slop around in hope of making it to NCOIC some day just to gain some respect, you are a officer and with that come perks that at least make the job bearable.

In the end it is your decision but before you leave for "Better" places and things, make sure Flordia is better and you have a future there that you will be happy with! Oh ya, and if you decide to get out make sure you make it to SE asia. $5 all you can bang special for American GI officers!!!

Hope life takes you in the direction you wish it to go man,

Brandon

My dad was in the military, did many things and ended up retiring.

if he wasn't in the military he wouldnt have met my mom, had me, lived in all those places, and like you mentioned before *have the best retirement plan out there*.

the pention is the sick. I can attest to that.

now, that works out as far as JOB SECURITY and RETIREMENT is concerned.

but, do you LIKE it? Do you Want to work in the army?

think about that one for a second.

maybe get into another section of the army? Maybe set a goal that you actually want to achieve within the military.

but if you can't find one, then you know what your Heart desires.

so figure it out, chump!

do what makes you happy. if you love being in army for everything it offers, then that's really cool. wish I had something that made me happy. if not then use the army to the best of your ability. during these couple of months figure out what you want to do in the civilian world and gear your job now towards that goal. is it possible to re-enlist for another position? if not then perhaps you could always use the GI bill and go back to school. a classmate of mine is doing that right now actually. so you know, you got lots of options. also being in the service looks really good on your resume so even if you decide to go back to school and get a job afterwards, it's a huge boost on your resume.

I’ve never taken the easy music option (which would make me a lot more money by the way) but chosen to push people a little. I try to draw people in a new direction slightly and expand their taste a little more than other DJ’s." - Lee Burridge
