Let me offer this: don't go so cheap that you end up with gear that you are unable to use from the standpoint of actually enjoying yourself. Sure, there's no need to drop several grand on Pio CDJ1000s only to find out that 1.) you don't like DJing or 2.) you simply can't DJ even with a lot of practice.
Spend enough that you get good, reliable equipment that you can actually learn on with some ease. Also, if you have good equipment and suck, you are still able to sell it later and recoup some of your initial investment.
With that in mind, you can't go wrong with Pioneer CDJ200s from what I understand. Hell, I have the cheap Numark TT1625 turntables, and they've been spot on for me for nearly a year now.
Edit: I have Stanton phones and the cheap Numark mixer. Again, both have performed flawlessly. I'd do a double take on the CD players, though.

to be honest...its all really really bad. ESPECIALLY that cd player...I actually thought the cd player was a joke at first.
