soundcard...lesson learned

pretty upset right now.

upgraded my desktop studio about 2 mos ago and got top of the line everything except i only bought an m-audio firewire solo for a soundcard.

guitar center guy tried to upsell me for 10min on wanting more outputs/inputs. i was like naw, i'm completly virtual, no hardware, this will be fine.

then, for work i go buy a laptop, i DJ here in san diego pretty regularly and i put ableton on it.

i'm thinking well shit, it be fun to bring my keyboard and go nuts at these shows. i hook up everything today to try and low and behold my f'ing sound card doesn't have enough outputs for me to use the "preview" function in ableton.

soooooooooo lame that i have to go buy a new card lol. sorry just venting.

Thats no good man. I have heard many people talk about needing to get a new sound card. What exactly is a sound card and what does it do?

hey man for laptop use go for the:

emu 1616m
i think it has 16 inputs and outputs, more than enough i think, got dsp fx and its perfect for a lap, next time go for this. u wonth regret it. im getting one soon. the card is pcmia, and i can tell u this cards are rok solid. right know i have a echo indigo dj, which is very fun. i also use only vst instruments and a usb midi control, so for now, 2 outputs (stereo) is eneogh also check that out, very unexpenssive and ver effective for producing and djing (live)!!!

The beauty of todays computers... just change the soundcard...
If its an external soundcard well, where is the problem. Throw it on ebay and buy a new one!

Default is 8 Inputs. You can get 6 more if you set up a pre-amp via ADAT.
