Native Instruments Battery Question?

Ive decided to try and move away from rewire and work solely in cubase.

ok well my question or questions are when you use battery do you only have one instance of it for all your percussion and kick or one for kick and one for claps etc?

secondly how many tracks do you use for each instrument? do you have a track for open hats, one for closed hats, one for claps etc?

thirdly this sort of ties down with the second question is it possible to eq your different percussion elements even if they are using the same instance of battery?

i need to know all this as if its going to be a complete cpu overload im probably wasting my money and time using battery.

thanks

yeah you can use only one instance of battery for your drums, however you may run out of cells for all your different samples, in that case u may need to load another instance of battery...(altho there are a good number of cells!)

I usually have a midi track for every instrument, cos i find it easier to see where everything is laid out and where different elements come in

And you can eq each element individually if only using one instance of battery - each element will have its own channel (which u set) in the cubase mixer.

i had serious problems with CPU maxing out until i got the latest patch (2.1.5 i think...) - after i installed that, no bother
Battery 3 is coming out soon as well, so it may be better again (or worse!)

I have never run out of cells, nor have I ever had a problem with CPU usage.

yeah doesn't make much sense... samples are pretty much RAM driven not CPU and battery's "effects" are quite minimal at best.

using different plugs on each channel for each sound will add up quickly but could you possibly be using more than 20 drum samples per track? i would hope your kicks(even if its 7 layered kicks all together) are 1 sample, etc.)

the ease of your tracks and the CPU hogs that they incur are easily controlled by you if you just set it up right from the get go

Coming from rewire I'm guessing you don't have much experience of vst routing and Aux ins. I use pro tools but this should apply to cubase as well I think...

1/ you only use one instance, I doubt u will run out of space

2/ I assume you're talking about how many audio tracks? You should be able to route the audio from your one instance of battery into seperate aux ins.
create an aux in and click on the input and there should be an option to select which channel of battery this track recieves. once this is done yes you can eq individually by placing an eq on the aux in. Once you have all the tracks in individually try tying them up into seperate busses as well and eqing that rather than each track individually...
You can do a similar thing with midi tracks as well in routing, you click their output and select it destination in battery.
