Comb+, Comb-

Ok, i know I've asked this at least eleventy billion gagillion times. BUT, I've narrowed it down. Derivative explained it VERY nicely in a previous post as well, the concept of comb filtering. The EXACT effect I am going for, after research, I've come to learn is the subtractive-comb effect. I don't know how to achieve this with GRM Tools, nor do I know how to with OhMyGod or Frohmage. Most comb-filters I've found in VST form are typically just comb+ filters, or simply combs. I am looking for the subtractive comb sound. THATS the sound you hear a LOT effecting almost everything in BT's works, plus it's used mildly in various tracks I've heard over the years. Whenever it's used, if you do it right, it's an amazingly high-energy effect.

So I ask; what are some good subtractive-comb VST/AUs? I'm a Mac user, so AU is preferred, but I can wrap with FXpansion.

EDIT:

I know I've done it in the past, too, but if requested I will post 2..3...4 clips isolating this effect that I'm talking about.

I don't have the greatest understanding of the applications of comb filters, but I think that Absynth's multicomb can do what you want. Also try looking at Brush; it has a lot more parameters than GRM and some of them (type? phase?) might be what you're looking for. Not easy on the eyes, but pretty versatile.

Hope that helps - but as I said, I'm not that hip on combs.

Comb Effect 1
Comb Effect 2
Comb Filter 3

Also, I have Absynth 3 and I noticed that there's this plugin called Absynth 3 FX? I've tried to use it but I can never get any output from it. Most/all of NI products I've noticed have an FX of the same module. Are those meant to be used as stand-alone effects in the chain?

EDIT:

btw, I'll reitterate...I'm a Mac user, so none of the concreteFX work for me.

Phaser, flanger or very short (30-40 ms) delays are all examples of comb filtering. Use these effects to achieve the above mentioned results...

Sweet...thanks...

Anyway, so does anyoen know of a good subtactive comb-filter that works for OS X?

And if you think this can be achieved otherwise, please, step up to the plate, and show me because I've been trying to figure this out for months now.

You have to go into your patch and set one of the channels to use "Audio In" as the Mode. In many cases you'll also have to route some MIDI to it, sort of like a vocoder.

Absynth can give "negative feedback" on the combs which, as I said, I think would be like a comb-, but I'm not positive.

As for Concrete, I thought you said you could wrap the VSTs? Compatibility issues with that one?

i can listen to BT's samples all day long he got a unique style.
but like Effero said, i think its a blend of phaser/flanger AND cutoff/reso filters. (u can hear the flange sound there)

BT uses a combination of things. The comb filter he uses is the one produced by GRM tools http://www.grmtools.org/quicktour/v...ombfilters.html

But im sure with delays and a phaser you could a achieve a very similar phase cancellation effect.
